Fanatic's 40 Gallon

Today, my dad bought me a used aquarium, which belonged to my mom’s friend.
I did not expect this, and it was so surprising to me, I was excited to find out!
Although, it’s not a huge upgrade, just a 40 gallon, but it’s a ton better than this current tank!

I am unsure of the brand of the tank, but the stand has removable sheet panels on the front, which we will be wrapping to look like a rustic wooden theme, it’ll match out existing furniture.
It’s super exciting for me, and I just cannot wait until we set it up. The best part, it’s rectangular, not square, which I absolutely love!

I am thinking of getting a Fluval canister, just because they seem like a hot product right now.
The tank is emtpy, with a few decorations, heater and filter, and a full LED light.
That also opens up options for new fish! I want to add to my cherry barbs, cories, and get a pair of dwarf cichlids. More wood, and plants are in order, so I will use my time wisely to find everything.

I will start a build thread as soon as I receive the tank!

Congratulations! Looking forward to seeing what you do with it. What does this mean for the tank fish are coming from though?

There aren’t any fish from the new tank, it’s empty and cleaned.
It looks like a tank you’d buy at the store for a bundle, it has a castle decoration with it too, which is neat. Thanks, for the compliment, that means a lot!

I will set up a quarantine for the existing fish so I can assemble this new tank over the course of a few days, which makes it less stressful to rush. The fish will be staying in a 16 gallon sterlite tub while the new tank gets built

I meant your old tank (or tanks). The ones your fish are coming from to go to the new one. What do you plan with those?

They will all be coming to the 40, with an addition of more cherry barbs, possibly another bristlenose, and dwarf cichlids.

Edit: Changing the title to a build thread topic, so I will get a Moderator to move it.

Mind moving this to the build thread forum?

I am getting so excited for this, a bunch of ideas are rushing through my head right now!
I am heading to the local rock and tree dealer to pick up some rugged rocks with good character, those will compliment the tank very well. I don’t have live plants for this tank, but I will ask my dad, otherwise, I plan on just some banana plants, and floating plants only with regular artificial decorations.

I was tired of a cube tank, so this rectangular shape makes me happy. I can already see how pleased I will be by moving old fish into a new tank, especially the sweet cories. Also, I planned on more barbs, and cories. The albinos are great, there’s currently six of them, but I wanted to add another six of bronze cories, they school together with albinos. I will also be taking requests from my family, so my mom wants a few platies or endlers, and my brother wants an angel, which is definitely going to be added. Here is a rough stocking for the new tank.

16 Cherry Barbs
12 Bronze & Albino Cory
(?) 2 Bristlenose (lemon and albino)
2 Boliviam Rams (or a dwarf cichlid variety)
1 Angelfish (if not, a pair of pearl gouramis or a single opaline)

Now, I am unaware of the dimensions of the tank, they said it was a 40 gallon.
I am hoping it’s either that, or slightly bigger, not smaller. But, even if it is a bit smaller, I will be extremely happy nonetheless

I am going to pick up the tank, tonight!
Next, ordering some plants, caves, and configuring filtration, and we'll have this baby up and running!
I will measure it, and confirm the dimensions later this evening.

Nevermind, the aquarium was poorly packed during shipment, and was shattered upon arrival
Turns out, the seller had two large castle decorations on the bottom, and the bouncy drive destroyed the tank.

So, in short, this build will no longer be alive...
I am utterly and shamely disappointed.

Omg! I'm so sorry. I would actually cry if that happened to me. So sad that their carelessness broke the tank.

I know, it’s so aggravating, but that’s the way life is.
My dad and I aren’t sure what we’re going to do, I was really looking forward to working on a new tank. PetCo does have the sale right now, but he doesn’t favor 40 breeders, says their squatty.

I've never had one and while the extra front to back depth seems attractive I agree with your dad on the squatty part. I just wish my rectangle was a hair shorter and a bit deeper front to back.

Okay, we're fixin' up this fixer upper!
My dad and I will be taking the panels off, and replacing the bottom piece which is shattered.
So, the tank will (hopefully) be able to start up again!

Oh, and here's the tank.

Bummer! It's a hobby, not a piece of art.. I'm never actually done with my tanks.. this is just one step in a great many of getting this project underway!
