Falling Angelfish Fry

I finally was able to pull a spawn from my angelfish pair and get them to hatch!
But some of the newly hatched fry are falling off the leaf the parents laid the eggs on. Will they be okay on the bare bottom of the tank? Should I try to put them back on the leaf? Do I keep on adding methylene blue? Do a water change?

Congrats!

No need for meth blue if they've hatched.

If they are falling off onto a bare bottom or sand they are fine. Its gravel that would be an issue as they would probably fall into the gravel and get stuck.

You will want to do daily water changes from here on out.

Are you prepared with a baby brine shrimp hatchery? Most angel fry won't eat powdered or frozen fry food.

Thanks!
Yes, I'll be prepared to feed them. Previously, I've been able to leave the eggs with the parents until the wrigglers were a couple days old. But lately they've started eating the spawn right away, so this time I pulled the eggs and was home and to pick off any that turned white, so got them to hatching.

Update: I woke up to free swimmers this morning and they ate! Keeping my fingers crossed they stay healthy and continue eating.

The fry have been free swimming for about 60 hours, and are swimming and eating well. I can already tell that they've grown a bit.
When I came home today, I found that the parents had spawned again, AND one of my other pairs had spawned as well!
Unfortunately, I don't have another hatchery setup, so these two latest batches are at the mercy of their parents.

UPDATE: The fry are now 31 days from hatching. Out of 100 or so, I still have 30-40. Most of them are starting to change shape, but some of them haven't. The difference is size and shape would make you think they were from different spawns. Is this normal? Will the runts catch up?

It is natural for fry to be of different size .
Smaller fry may grow to same size as others but will likely not catch up with the faster growing ones.
Good job on raising the fry !

Congratulations !!!

I breed angelfish as well. May I suggest a Ziss breeder box to make your life simpler. Put the leaf or piece of slate in it and presto, same water parameters and extra aeration. Different sizes available and can be connected together.

Depends on the size of tank you have them in. It is possible to stunt growth in fry with crowded tanks and not enough room and water conditions. I have also found growth to be slower in different colour varieties. I don’t have the answer for this, but for some reason black angels, or angels with more black pigment seem to grow at a slower rate and be more fragile. Which is frustrating because they are in higher demand, at least in the fish stores around here.
