Fake plant metal

Hello everyone! I recently stopped by the dollar store and purchased a few fake plants. I know most people say to go with silk, but to be quite honest I didn't care at the time I was there (I was starving!) so I just grabbed a few things that looked neat and went to eat. After my low blood sugar rage had subsided I took a look at the new plants. I noticed that a few of them had missing plant extensions (Thanks China), there by leaving the metal exposed on a few points. I'm under the impression that this will eventually rust and not be good for my fish. Would adding a bead of silicone sealant to the end of each of these points suffice?

Thanks,
Brad!

You could try aquarium safe silicone to seal it. Otherwise you're right, the rust will come out sooner than later.
Personally, I don't trust the dollar store stuff. Main reason is, if you buy from the petstore, most of the stuff is rated safe for the aquarium, plus the good ones are weighted down. I know for me, some of my non-weighted plants went in the trash because it was such a pain to keep them secured down ( especially with snails and barbs who pick at them constantly ) and they were constantly all over the tank.

I would probably err on the side of caution and not use them in an aquarium because of the chance that the remaining metal parts in the plant aren't actually sealed away watertight, merely not visible. I tend to agree with Junne and purchase that kind of thing from a source that is meant to go into an aquarium just to be safe.

The advice I was going to give was given, btw...I think you an awesome tank. The black background really makes everything pop. Very stunning.
