Want To Sell F2 Betta dimidiata, 4 mixed sex juveniles/adults

And here we go! :) Up for consideration today is a group of four F2 Betta dimidiata, which I will be offering for $40 before shipping. I will be offering additional groups, but I have significantly more females than males, so if you intend to get a breeding group I wouldn't procrastinate. Now for a few more details...

The Fish - A mouthbrooding wild betta (not likely to spawn themselves to death like many smaller mouthbrooders, though); easy to feed (currently feeding them golden pearls, have also fed BBS), keep, and breed (the fry just began to appear one day in the half filled 20 high with the original two pairs), prefers soft water (ideally 100 ppm TDS or less but can go higher). Fantastic jumpers. Rather shy (hence the lousy photographs that ensue). I have not tried to keep them with other species. Males get to 2-2.5 inches before their beautiful spade tails (their finnage is fantastic by wild betta standards), females about 1.5 inches tops; most of these juveniles are about 1-1.5 inches (some a little smaller, a couple much larger)

Shipping - $25 for USPS priority 2 day, $60 for UPS next day. I will only offer a DOA guarantee on the latter; in the event you have any DOA's, please send me a photograph in the UNOPENED bag within 3 hours of the betta's arrival and I will offer a partial to complete refund on the cost of the fish (not shipping), depending on how many of the bettas passed away. DOA refunds on priority mail will be up to my discretion. If you happen to live in New England I will be willing to meet you in Newington, NH (location TBA) to skip shipping charges. USPS Priority shipments will be sent out Monday or Tuesday, UPS shipments will be sent out Wednesday or Thursday (courtesy of work schedule issues and the fact that the nearest UPS that ships live animals is a half hour away and opens at 3 pm); PLEASE make sure to pay me at least a day before the day you want me to ship the fish, as I will need to fast them for two days to minimize the risk that they are poisoned by their waste in the mail should the package be delayed. I will only be sending out one group a week to avoid accidentally sending them to the wrong address (ignore this if you simply want to pick them up in person). I will use this thread to announce when I am preparing to ship fish and when I am ready to accept another order.

Payment - PAYPAL ONLY. Please use the "goods and services" option and not the "friends and family" option. Please PM me to arrange a sale. If you are picking the fish up in person, DO NOT paypal me...just bring the cash with you please (most likely we would be meeting in front of a small pet store).

Below is a picture of the tank they are currently in...forgive the poor quality, please (the tank is dark and these fish are quite skittish). Do not hesitate to post here to ask any more questions. Thank you :)

I've never heard of these kinds of bettas, but these are very interesting fish!

Do these guys require special conditions, or at least more complicated setups? And where do you get the food for them? Also, could they good in a 15 gallon, or do they need something bigger? They look like some really fun fish, and I might be interested, if I think I can do what they need to stay alive.

They need a very tight lid...they are very good jumpers. While I was trying to catch the juveniles so as to count them, I had several that jumped 8 inches straight up. A 10 gallon would easily fit a pair or perhaps even two pairs (obviously my half filled 20 high - basically a 15 gallon - had many more fish, but they never spawned under those conditions). I got the golden pearls online, but they should take normal pellets fine (that is part of what I fed the parents). They do prefer softish water, but it doesn't need to be distilled water.

Here are some more pictures I got last night;

They can seek out and jump through the smallest crack in the lid (like where the hoses go) so make sure to completely seal those parts with saran wrap.

Hello again everyone! I sent out the first two batches of bettas today - one to another buyer, another to someone on this forum - and had an aggravating financial mishap occur. Both buyers asked me to ship via USPS priority, but when I went to ship them at my post office the clerk forced me to use USPS express, which cost so much that I lost money on both transactions. I am not going to use that post office in the future, but do you have any advice on preventing such a thing from happening in the future? After all, USPS gives priority mail as an option for live animals on their website.

I've printed labels at home, and bypassed it with snails and fish before. There are a few different ways, but I was able to do through my dad, who has a program or something to print labels specifically, so idk if that is an option. But, if you plan on shipping more fish, it might be worth looking into

I’ve been shipping fish with USPS priority for over a decade, & in all that time I was never forced to use express. Something doesn’t smell right.

Even if you print out the shipping label on paper, you can "seal" it with clear packing tape to prevent it from becoming messed up. USPS should be contacted to let them know their clerk has done something like this, because they only have rules against shipping dead fish, not live.

Hi everyone! Good news...the batch arrived to their buyer alive and well. He is very happy with them :) Thank goodness, that's some weight off my chest!

I also noticed something while capturing the fish yesterday...there do not seem to be NEARLY as many females as I thought. In fact, there almost seem to be more males than females in the batch...I will need to count them again to be sure, though.

It’s always nerve-wracking while the package is in transit. I constantly track it until it finally arrives.

More good news, everyone! The bettas for the fishlore member buyer also arrived safe and sound yesterday. Makes me a bit less nervous about this idea of selling fish online...

I shipped out another order of bettas today...they are going to California from New England. Still nervous about this process...

I've heard wild bettas do well with more air and less water. Seems like a short transit time would be a reasonable way to test this.

My shipping bags contain 1/2 to 2/3rds air. The pictures don't show that very well, though...

Yeah it’s probably more apparent when the bag is in its side.
