Extremely Neon Tetras

Just thought I would share this, seems like my tank is incredibly colorful this afternoon, and wanted to share the neons, who are looking extra "neony" today.

The pics show some of them, but the others hid behind the plants and rocks in the tank, but they were all looking like this-

They've become even more vibrant now, its incredible.

Here's another pic of them right now, with Sean Bean in the mix too
They were darting for cover the moment I got close, little shy things

Love Sean Bean. Great name. Out of curiosity, where did you get your neons? I'm having issues with stock dying off - first batch from Petsmart were fine, then the batch from LiveAquaria mostly died, then more from the second Petsmart batch died. My parameters are stable and I have shrimp and snails in addition to other fish - only the neons are dying. Frustrated!

I got my neons from PetSmart as well, but they were in a pretty well taken care of store. Also they went into a very mature tank, but I'm not sure how much that has to do with their success. I've heard they're very sensitive fish, and they die easily, but mine never have. I also have a piece of Malaysian DW in there, so it might lower the pH a bit which could help them out

Hmmm...yes, I've read a lot recently about the overall quality of neons going down due to breeding. I didn't have problems in my old tank with fish dying, and in this one most have been very healthy and active. But so far only one good batch of neons. If I lose these I think I'll try a different fish rather than keep attempting to up the school.

Whats the GH of your water? TDS?
They like it softer, my father has hard water and hasn't been able to keep them successfully either. I have both neon and cardinals with my local soft water and they are healthy.

That's a good question. I know our water is pretty hard but haven't tested. I'll get a kit and see if I can resolve this.

Well my water is rather alkaline and they're still doing well. pH is 7.4-7.5
