Extra Filtration on 55g FW Tank

I currently have a Fluval 305 on my 55 gallon and I have just upgraded the canister filter on my 20 gallon long, which had a Fluval 105.

I was looking to add more filtration for the 55 gallon anyway so I was thinking of putting the 105 in along w/305 in my 55g? I figure this would be the equivalent of having (1) Fluval 405 canister filter (+).

Just looking for input...

yes you could. I am just wondering if they equal a 405

I would definitely add it to your tank. Is it the equivalent? No. I think it's better. I very much prefer to have 2 smaller filters on a 4 foot tank than one bigger one.

Though I just saw how small the 105 is..... it still can't hurt to add it.

Well, I looked up each models GPH rates:

105 = 125 GPH
305 = 260 GPH
405 = 340 GPH

If the suggested GPH for a 55 gallon @ 5x is: 275 AND if I did my math correctly, the 105 & 305 would give me a combined GPH of 385, which is more then the 405 alone.

yes, but filtration is more a function of volume of biomedia than it is gph.
