Hi,

I bought a 25 Gallon tank kit which came with the 100w heater, underwater filter and hood with a tube light.
I want to use Fluval 206 Canister Filter with 206 Gph. However my hood/ canopy does not have space for passing external filter hose. How can I use this filter and not lose the hood as I don't want to use open tank. Can I cut the hood and how?

Thank You.

If the hood is plastic, yes you can cut it.

Yes cut it where the hoses will be positioned. A dremel with a drywall bit will give you a nice clean precise cut.

So the lid has zero openings for a hang on back style filter or for a canister filter?

What brand of aquarium kit is this?

Thank you for your reply. I don't have the tools. So I don't know how I am going to cut holes in the hood. But will find something. Thanks again.

Yes. Zero opening. It is Marina Basic 96, 80x30x40 cm. Below is the link for this aquarium kit.

The aquarium kit came with marina i110 internal filter. I was thinking about adding powerful filter.
So either I cut holes and use Canister Filter Or go with powerful internal filter like Fluval U4. Please suggest would it be better to buy a new internal filter or cut holes and buy canister filter? I am planning to fully stock (not over-stock) this tank with Tetras, Guppy, Platy, Swordtail.

Also I would like to know whether the flow rate of filters like FLuval 406 or FX4 or Fluval U4 will cause problem for the fish in this 25 gallon tank?

Thank you.

Sorry forgot to mention that I am not going with live plants. Only Adding gravel, couple of rocks and drift wood and 2-3 artificial plants.

Thank You.

Yes that is way too much. You only need about 200-250 gph for a 25 gallon tank. The Fluval U4 is the only one suitable at 260 gph.

Thank you for the advise. Really appreciate it. I was thinking about buying more powerful filter now for future big tank but I guess that would be too much flow rate for my existing 25G. Will go with Fluval U4 internal filter.

Thank You all for your advise. I bought EHEIM Bio Power 240 internal filter as the pet shop selling it has spare parts as well. The Shop selling Fluval filters does not have spare parts. I like this filter. It is working fine.
