extended siphon

first time i've seen my snails siphon extended and of course I didnt know what it was, so I grabbed my phone to take a picture. . I was like oh my god is it dying, i'm watching it die, what's going on.Then she made her way from the bottom to the glass and all the way up. At this point I was thinking oh my god she's going up top to lay her eggs (she was housed temporarily with my guy before I moved him to another tank.... seriously, withing 10 minutes of putting them in the same tank they started mating, which they continued to do multiple times that day)

Anyhow, so she made her way to the top and took a couple of breaths up there, and then she let go of the glass and floated back down.


On the plus side, I learned about the siphon, and I got a video of her floating down

 

The siphons are so cool. I love when they extend them all the way out. My bigger ones are about 2 inches when fully extended.

 

Bithimala she really had it out there, I don't know if it was fully extended but it was at least an inch and a half.

 

light or dark body? One of my favorite parts of my boys doing it is that they are light colored, and the siphon has the little markings on it somewhat like what is on their feet. Definitely glad you go to see it, and then parasnailing after!

I've seen this a time or two, and my favorite part is watching him literally gulp air through it, over and over. It's also fun to watch them climb all the way up, twist the foot off the glass and drift down. I like having a snail more than I thought I would.
