Excel use and potential cross contamination

Glucose is naturally in lakes and that was an example!
"indicate that the algal uptake of glucose and acetate in Lake Erken, Sweden, is always less than 10% of the bacterial uptake, even though the algal biomass may be orders of magnitude greater than the bacterial. Two new types of bioassay employ the kinetics of bacterial uptake systems as the measuring reaction. Acetate and glucose were found in 1-10 @mg/liter concentrations in the several natural waters tested.

These bacteria utilize the glucose to make CO2. That is what you wanted. You can also just simulate this by adding sugar yourself.

I was pre-medical, so, may be these things make more sense to me. I do not know. Either way I did enjoy and wish you would trust sugar over toxic substances, but, I digress. Good luck to you both.

Also, I ended up with 3 planted + on my 75 gallon because of my really really thick forest. And yes I do dose sugar once every 3 days. I do recommend them! But, I am waiting for some better LED next time, higher wattage... Wish they made a planted + like that!
It's called the Ray 2. Nice spread and high PAR.

The article is nice, just no references to compare to and no evidence showing me that that is indeed what is happening. It's just hearsay to me until there's more substantial proof.

Please tell me you aren't seriously trying to promote people dumping sugar in their tanks. That's really a very horrible alternative. No matter how well you claim it works. Reef tanks? Sure, whatevs. If you don't haven any other of the dozen or so nitrate lowering home remedies and there are reasons why this is applicable, yet not highly promoted.

You want a dozen threads on how people crashed the tank others on this forum helped them struggle to get up and running? Yeah, sure, tell them to drop some sugar in there with their fishes.

This thread is straying far off topic & Grimund has already asked you to stop, if you want to continue your side discussion then please start a new thread.
Please now stick to addressing Grimund's questions & not each other.

OK, that is why I sent information about planted + tank at the end. I was continuing his original thread. Silister Trench, PM me. Thanks!

Light was ordered today! I'll be swapping substrate and starting excel either tomorrow or the day after. Depends on how I'm feeling.

I won't forget to snap a pic of the light for you, Domer. I'll link to my recently made aquarium thread.

It lives! I blinded myself looking at it. I'm not a fan of the mass production box label. Planted+ package, but fugeray isn't even on the box.

Going to switch glass tops around, the one has a larger middle section that should help me out with the front of the tank.

It looks great!

You're going to add more plants, right? I'd worry about algae otherwise!

That's why she's raised! I had a piece of 1/8" acrylic I used for a shoddy (I mean it) lid on a standard 2.5 gallon. I have enough for a 3" riser if 2" isn't enough.

I plant on adding more. the algae will help compete with diatoms for food and with broken photo periods, until excel is dialed up to full dose, I should see far less of the brown stuff. I've considered going to a max of 1.25-1.50ml for daily dosing, but I'll cross that when I come to it.

I think I'll break down the tank and replace my substrate today. Got to grab a timer, too.

After I get Titan all set, I can focus on Speed. I'm in no rush for either, as bills come first. This light was my weeks fun money in one go, lol.

After I swap out, I'll take a pic of both tanks, update my thread, and link it. That way I can close this and we can continue discussing.

I don't pay for Internet, lol.

I haven't a need to mess with it outside of the set it and forget it method.

The Internet is unreliable most times and I'd much rather have a timer I can set that has a backup battery on the outlet. Keeps program and current time for when the power goes out. That and I paid half that

The deed is done. Waiting for things to clear up and all that jazz before taking a picture of both tanks. Those diatoms do a number to my filter. Both sponges got so clogged up for the second time. It reduced flow to just surface agitation and no movement otherwise

Hey, here is something that is AWESOME as a diatom filter!

lol I feel like a salesman. If you want this get it if not no harm to me. I just wanted to add something meaningful.

I forgot the link

The only thing I will note is that this thing the motor can be kinda funky sometimes, which annoys me. so realize this is an issue with it.

It was the sheer volume that clogged it

That filter is too large my 10 gallon. It'd stick out over the top of my tank

No pics tonight guys, sorry. The bubbles from filling it are strewn across everything. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to get it. Driftwood wouldn't sit like I wanted to but it still looks awesome. I can't wait to show it off
