Ever been shocked at how quickly fish can destroy food?

I occasionally feed my larger puffers Red Wrigglers (earthworms), and decided I'd film it today. I had my tripod all set up, and was expecting at least a few seconds to get my camera loose and ready to track the action... well, the puffer decided he didn't have time for that, so I ended up with this out of focus, lagging video. Still cool, but man, he destroyed that worm!

Have any of you guys ever captured something similar? Your fish just annihilating food?

What fish can do when it comes to food has long not been a surprise, though never really gets old to watch! Always love using topwater lures so i can watch fish just EXPLODE on it!

Watching my fish with bloodworns is a treat to watch though.. partially just because i have so many different kinds and sizes frenzying all at once!

We used to fish on Lake Cumberland as a kid - tons of Kentucky Bass in there. Not the largest species, but I swear they always hit lures harder than other bass we used to catch. Never had too much luck with top lures, but they'd pull your pole off the boat if you weren't careful!

I find bloodworms to be a good catch-all, too - people hate on them for their nutritional value, but it's the one food (other than baby brine) that everyone, freshwater, brackish, or saltwater, fish or shrimp or snail, will take.

I'd say I don't know where he puts it all, but it's hard not to notice!

Poor worm didn't have a chance! And it tried to swim away!

I think I'm scarred for life! LOL!

And, today, we're back with more worm violence!

Okay, not so violent today. They're dry this time :)

The shell on dried mealworms can help keep puffer beaks trimmed down, and it's also just a good variation in their diet.

You can hear the crunches in the Green Spotted Puffer video if you listen closely!

These videos also showcase the temperament differences between the two - the F8 is so shy!

Hey ChrissFishes01,

I'm really not trying to be gross, but do the other fish poop like that all the time while the puffer is trying to eat? Is that some kind of behavior to try to get the puffer to drop his food so they can steal it? Just curious to see if that is what is going on there....

I doubt they've got that figured out! I have seen him eat a little poop before, when I'm feeding bloodworms - I guess they look similar enough.

I think you're talking about balloon molly fry, right? They're always eating leftovers around the tank and algae. So they're always pooping!

I had to show my hubby! He was laughing, too!

Who knows, maybe there is a puffer in my future!

You need one! Or two. Or maybe six. Or all of them, in my case!

So, my Flowerhorn, Nanaue, has turned into a little monster over the past week or two. He was a little timid when I first got him home, but look at him now!

I started by just recording a video of my dwarf puffer eating... and then I got a little funky with the editing. This is what sleep deprivation does, kids.

My grandmother used to say her black skirt tetras reminded her of piranhas, because of how vicious they were when they ate their food :)
