if I type something and I want to go back and add a word I click where I want to type and then as I type it replaces the words with what I'm typing.

Seems as though the problem is something other than finding the edit button. Are you on the computer? If so you must have pressed the "insert" key on the keyboard. That switches how you type so that the letter you type will replace what is beside it. Press that key again and it should go back to normal
