Endlers with top swords?

Just wondering, does anyone have endlers with top swords? It seems that endlers with bottom swords are much more common as I haven't seen an actual endler with a top sword before, only the pretty pictures.
All my blackbars have bottom swords, I was also wondering, is it possible to get a blackbar only with a top sword?

he's gorgeous! what a nice looking little guy! Wouldn't it be nice if I can find a blackbar with a top sword?

itd be nice if I could find out what's in him and get a female with the top sword gene and breed them to make top swords

yeah, it would be nice. Top swords seem to be far less common than bottom swords though.

Great endler there J!

I've actually never seen endler swords before! I didn't know yours were swords!

I don't have any top sword Endlers but I have seen them for sale online. has some pictures of the ones he sells.

The Endler that allaboutfish posted kind of looks like a hybrid, maybe it's just the picture quality.

he probably is. I got him free from petco. it was cool bc he was attacking blue gouramis like 5 times his size. he's got really pretty colors though and most endlers are hybrids, except wild ones.

There's actually a pretty good amount of people breeding pure Endlers. Not something you'll find in a pet store but there are enough people keeping them pure to preserve the species.

I found an aquabid posting for top sword Endlers. Pretty neat looking.

Those are so pretty! Anyone know what happeneds if you breed them with normal bottom swords?

allaboutfish
  • #13
depends on with what. it could be a possibilty of co dominace resulting in a lyretail but more likely to result in mixed of the two.

Something like a black bar with a bottom sword with a black bar with a top sword(if they exist)? Would you end up with lyretails?

allaboutfish
  • #15
itd depend on what genes they had. and whether a top sword id dominant or a bottom is or if both are. let say you have a male top sword with a dominant gene for top sword and a female with dominant for bottom and then both had recessive for no sword or something then you could get a co dominance between the 2 resulting in a lyretail, but itd be like a 25% chance(I think)

Okay, thanks. I'm REALLY interested in top swords now, I want to get males and breed them with my bottom swords and see what the fry turn out as, but then, the first step would be to actually find a top sword endler which will probably be difficult.

Unfortunetly, I can't get those endlers.
I'll have to look around and visit a few fish stores I haven't been to yet to see if they have endlers with top swords, I'm pretty sure a few places here have endlers. hopefully I'll be lucky enough to find one.

Most of the traits come from the father. I'm going to try to breed male chilI Endlers with female blackbar. Hopefully I will get some chili's out of it.

if you get any cool hybrids let me know. I really like hybrid endlers since I won't be breeding, and a lot of them are really pretty

good luck getting some pretty chilis! Be sure to post pics if you can.

I have seen some pretty hybrids actually, I've seen some beautiful snakeskin endlers before, but as you probably know, I'm breeding black bars so I didn't want to mix them unless I knew what I was doing. have a look at tiger endlers too, they're really pretty.

eh I don't like tigers. id rather have black bar, snakeskin, peacock, or a hybrid.

there's a lot of possibilities, I like yallyall's endlers, they're very pretty. I'm sure there's lot's of pretty endlers out there. what colours and patterns do you prefer? I'll be happy to keep an eye out for any pretty hybrids.

If I got snakeskin endlers and they breed with my female blackbars, would I get snakeskins or a mixture of the two? I really like snakeskin endlers but don't want to do anything before I know what I'm doing.

xD soooo true!

Some genetics are dominant, where as some aren't. Some are just neutral... So it would be hard to predict how they would turn out. You may need an experts help on this one...

To Johnathon:

I'm considering breeding them, but I'm held back by quite a few things. I probably will try at the beginning of next year.

I got them from my LFS and they were mixed with the guppies. I have no idea what they actually are, just a P class endler. I'm not sure where you'd find similar endlers.

What I've notice when mixing strains is that you'll get babies that look like either parent and then a few that are a combination of them. Be careful with snakeskin, a lot of them are guppy hybrids. So if you have N class pure Endlers, you'll want to make sure that the snakeskin Endlers are pure too. I did see one strain on swampriveraquatics that had a snakeskin chest and was pure.

I wonder what I would get if I crossed lime green Endlers with ChilI Endlers? Green ChilI Endlers? If your fish sounds like a good meal, it's gotta be a good idea.

I'm not sure whether mine are pure, probably not. The snakeskins were endler hybrids but they were the most beautiful snakeskins I've ever seen. Oh well, guess it might not be good to mix them then.

if it were me id try to find a female lyretail guppy and try that. I really want one so if you ever find another male like that tell me.

If your not N class, I don't see any harm in it. But if your pure, try to keep them pure. Good Luck!

It'd be nice if I had N class, but I don't so I might try breeding them with snakeskins and see what I get. They do look like pure endlers though.

Like I said b4, even if they look like they are pure, you need documentation to show that they are from the wild... Yours might be a K class if you think they may be a cross.

Will do Johnathon!

By the way yallyall, do you know what kind of documentation they use to show their endlers are pure? I think quite a few people have pure endlers but I wasn't really aware you needed proof.
