Endlers Fin Nipping Cory Catfish? Urgent!!

Ive had my 10 gallon tank for about a month now with no issues (fully cycled) and I recently got a few 6 new endlers. I have 2 cory cats in there as well (will get more); they've been fine for the past few weeks but today I JUST NOTICED right now that the tail fin of BOTH cories are missing a few parts. I also have a peacock gudgeon in the tank with a perfectly fine tail so I don't suspect that it is due to bacteria.

Do you think that tails of the cories were affected when I first put the endlers in (because they were confused and stressed)? If I notice the cories tails get even worse, would it be better just to surrender the fish to Petsmart or LFS?

Thanks.

(btw the photo is a pic of the tail that is a lot worse compared to the other one)

It might be fin nipping. I would recommend kind of putting all your plants/decorations as an angle (horizontally) so the Cory’s can swim under the plants.

Also do a 35% water change.

What are your parameters?

Okay. Then is must be rail nipping. Do a water change, and add decorations at the bottom.

Endlers are known to be a bit nippy. That tanks not exactly prime for Corys (size or scape) and with 6 Endlers and a Peacock Goby (they get about 3 inches) you're about max on your stock. You may want to rehome the corys as theyd do better in a larger tank in a larger school.

I'd consider rehoming the cories if they're getting picked on. Don't take them to Petco or Petsmart though. I would take to an actual pet fish store. Overall they treat the fish much better and they'll likely go to a better home.

They probably wouldn't get picked on if they were in a big school of 6+ since fish tend not to mess with the powerful ones (big groups equal power), but your tank isn't big enough for more of them.

okay thanks. But do you think a LFS would take cories w/ nipped fins? Its not severe but its noticeable

Honestly, most of the pet store employees won’t notice. if they do notice, I don’t think they will decline the fish, over some nipped fins. If they ask about the fins just say ‘the reason I am returning them is because my other fish are nipping at them’. They should take them.

If you take them to where you bought them and let them know they didnt tell you they should be in larger schools in a larger tank, there shouldnt be a problem.
