EMERGENCY African dwarf frog fungus :(

I have had my african dwarf frog since August of 2018. On October 1st, I noticed a white spot on his right leg that I thought was a fungus. I replaced 50% of the water in the tank and hoped it would start to clear up. It looks the same as it did 3 days ago, but I'm getting worried because I thought it would start to go away. I've looked into treatments, and I don't know which is best. I've read about aquarium salt, hydrogen peroxide, methylane blue, malachite green, pimafix, and API's "fungus cure".

Please help!! I'm so worried. Any advice is appreciated. I don't know which of these treatments is best. I also have melafix and KanaPlex on hand if I should start with either of those.

What is the water volume of the tank? 5.5 gallons
How long has the tank been running? August of 2018 (over 2 years)
Does it have a filter? Yes, it was just cleaned
Does it have a heater? Yes
What is the water temperature? 78 degrees
What is the entire stocking of this tank? (Please list all fish and inverts.) 1 african dwarf frog and 1 nerite snail

Maintenance
How often do you change the water? It depends, but I just changed it 3 days ago
How much of the water do you change? When I did 3 days ago, I changed 50%
What do you use to treat your water? Water conditioner
Do you vacuum the substrate or just the water? Both

*Parameters - Very Important
Did you cycle your tank before adding fish? No I did not know I was supposed to two years ago
What do you use to test the water? API test kit
What are your parameters? We need to know the exact numbers, not just “fine” or “safe”.

Ammonia: .25 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 2.5 ppm
pH: 8.4

Feeding
How often do you feed your frog? Every day
How much do you feed your frog? 3 bloodworms
What brand of food do you feed your frog? Omega one
Do you feed frozen or freeze-dried foods? frozen bloodworms

Illness & Symptoms
How long have you had this frog? Over two years
How long ago did you first notice these symptoms? 3 days ago
In a few words, can you explain the symptoms? He has a small white raised fuzzy spot on his right leg
Have you started any treatment for the illness? No
Was your fish physically ill or injured upon purchase? No
How has its behavior and appearance changed, if at all? He's hanging out near the top more now. His appearance has changed due to the white spot

Aquatic Dwarf Frog Diseases

Aquatic Dwarf Frog Diseases

Fungal Infections

"Lots of harmful fungi affect African dwarf frogs. The signs of a fungal infection typically include small white cottony patches all over your frog's skin, or one white spot that grows larger, a lack of appetite and wrinkly and poor-looking skin that might come off in tatters when he sheds. Your amphibian might also try to seemingly scratch the disease off himself by running into plants and decorations. The white patches are by far the most common symptoms. Antifungal medications can kick many types of fungal infections to the curb; however, a particularly resilient fungal disease called chytrid is a major problem for all frogs; if one of your African dwarfs has it, your others will quickly have it too -- African dwarfs or other variants."

"Ok, so far, the only meds I have found that are safe for ADS's are Maroxy for fungal infections and Maracyn 2 for bacterial infections. I don't know which your frog might have (I've been confused about bacterial vs fungus with my fish before. Just because its fuzzy, isn't always fungus). The Maroxy is dosed two drops per gal for four to five days. Make sure that the water is pristine, isolate the frog and be observant. Good luck. I've got four of these little buggers myself and I love them."

Good luck with your Frog!

Thank you so much for your reply!! I'll look into that. There are just so many treatments that I've seen, and I don't want to give the wrong one & lose him.

When you say your filter was just cleaned, did you clean the whole thing with tap water? Or replace all of the filter media? This could have disrupted the beneficial bacteria.

I have an Aqueon tank, so when I say cleaned, I mean the catridge was taken out and replaced with a new one (with a new bag of carbon, also). I did this after he showed symptoms though so it could not have caused it! However, is there a better way I could replace it in the future?

All of the beneficial bacteria that eats away at the ammonia your frog and snail produce is located in your filter. Unfortunately, as a marketing ploy companies will say the cartridge needs to be replaced monthly, when in reality it shouldn't be replaced until its literally falling apart. By throwing the cartridge away you are getting rid of the beneficial bacteria and ruining your cycle
