Ember Tetra And Blue Velvet Breeding - Community Tank

Hello everyone,

I've just joined the forum and was looking for a bit of advice after searching through the threads.

Currently I'm at my second aquarium for which I have finished the setup. I would like to ask the members for any idea on how I could better increase the chances for my Ember Tetras and Blue Velvet shrimp to reproduce.
I did have a pregnant Blue Velvet shrimp but the eggs did not hatch at least as far as I've seen. I did not separate them, as I previously had an aquarium with RCS that was smaller and more heavily stocked with Ember Tetra/Danio/Cory and they were breeding without intervention.

An additional note would be that the aquarium is quite close to my desk so it does see a bit of movement, lights and even noise. I do try to not go overboard, but it happens from time to time.
The ember tetras will go hide behind the rock each time I move around. The shrimp usually stay still, with some exceptions when they seem to go crazy and swim around a lot.

Please see my setup below, along with a picture.

Equipment
Aquarium: 112L(29 gal) capacity / ~85L(22 gal) actual water quantity.
Filter: ~500L/H or 132 gal/H
Chihiros Doctor II: Turned on recently, long after the shrimps layed the eggs.
Lighting: 100% for 7 hours a day. Additional indirect light, but quite low as the apartment is not facing directly the sun. I did buy a light regulator that should arrive soon,
so that it will simulate dusk and dawn and not scare the fish/shrimp. I'm planning on lowering the intensity as well quite a bit.

Water
PH: ~6.5
NO2: 0
NO3: 30-40 mg/l
Fe: 0,035 mg/l
GH: ~6 ºdGH
KH: ~3-4º dKH
Cl: 0
Conductivity: 275 ppm
I do not perform regular water changes as I've chosen to keep the bioload very low. The water characteristics are stable for 2 months now.

Temperature: 28-30ºC / 82-86ºF

Fauna
Ember Tetras - 3 male, 3 female
Velvet shrimp - 3-4 male, 2 female

Feeding
Feeding Tetra min baby or crushed Tetra flakes.
The fish don't eat from the top, they wait for the food to be blow across the aquarium. Currently I'm not feeding the shrimp as I assume the algae and fish food is enough for them.

Flora
Eleocharis sp. minI - carpeting, but has not covered yet
Hemianthus Micranthemoides - added to background, but waiting for it to grow
Alternanthera ReineckiI var. MinI - few on the side of the rocks
Ammania sp BonsaI - very few in the back, plan to add a few more
Marino balls - 3 in the middle of the aquarium (just added) + 5 in the cave formation and the back. Added recently to help the shrimp and reduce nitrates.
No plans to add any other types of plants, except maybe some duckweed in order to reduce nitrates.

Thank you

Where do you people get those great looking rocks? The larger one at the left of your tank almost looks like a toad with his front legs up on the other rock.

I think your temperature is a bit too high. The shrimp do best from 64 to 84 F and the fish from 68-82.

Ah that makes sense. Thank you ! I've started the setup for this one just as the summer started, so the temperatures where higher than for my previous one. Things should improve I guess in the next few weeks.
The rock I got from a small shop in France, that does aquascaping. They let you arrange the rocks in the sand before buying them. Also the owner was nice enough to help out with the setup, since i'm artistically challenged.

If anyone else has any advice on how I can improve the setup please let me know.

Welcome!

Your aquarium is gorgeous!

I don’t have any good advice, but you’ll find it here.

I will say that I have a bit of subwassertang that my shrimplets hide in while they grow a bit. They seem to feel safe and happy there.
I’m don’t think it would look great in your tank though.

Good luck. Hang tight, someone will be here soon to help.
