ELITE Filtration kit problem

hI again,

I am setting up a 10 gal tank for my glofish (zebra danio) fry. I have added media from my tank, so it is about cycled, but the HOB power filter creates a huge current and the fry were not able to control their movement.

the filtration kit is for 5-10 gallon aquariums with the elite 799 airpump and bottom filter. the package lacks any detailed instructions, and when I set it up, the air bubbles fail to go down the tube and trough the airstone. the simply bubble out the fan shaped plastic piece at the top that is shaped like a funnel. the tube connected to the airstone is not long enough for the funnel shaped pice to properly connect to the airtube with the airstone. it came with the elite 799 airpump, bottom filter, activated charcoal, poly woo, and airline tubing. I planed not to use the charcoal, but to add bacteria sponge instead, as well as some unused pillow stuffing, but I never got around to it since it dosent even work!

I know this situation is impossible to help with if you don't actually own it, but I'm hoping someone here dose. sorry for the vague details, but without instructions, I don't know what these pieces are even called. I will return it if I can not resolve this problem, but I am snowed into my house, so I might as well attempt to fix it.

I emailed Hagen, who makes it, but they have failed to respond to me. if I need to get a different filter, is there a particular one anyone recommends (sponge/box)? (it is a 10 gal tank, that will only have fry, snails, and java moss)

Thanks, any help is appreciated

this is what it is:

Huh. These things should just be "plug and play." Hook the hose to the input, turn the pump on, and it works. There are ones that a local pet store uses that look similar, but are made of a transparent green plastic. They seem to work really well. I've also seen the ones that are grey tubes with black sponges on them.
Are you saying that the bubbles aren't coming out of the airstone at all?

thanks for the reply. the airstone has short piece of tubing attached to it. I think I am supposed to run it up a black plastic pipe, and attach it to a plastic piece that fits inisde it. I would then attach the other side of the plastic piece to the long airline tubing which would attach to the air pump. the problem is that the short plastic piece is not long enough to go far enough up the tube for the black plastic piece to reach it, so the air will not continue down the tube into the airstone, but simply bubbles up from where the plastic piece SHOULD connect them.

Then it sounds like the thing was made incorrectly. I would take it back.

ok. my lfs is very small and not doing great, so they are very resistant to returns. I eventually got through to the company and they to me to pull the tube connected to the airstone off and cut my own piece off that is the correct length. I did, but it was glued on and the airstone broke! I doubt they will take it back now... the company said they will send me a new airstone at least with no tubing attached, so I can do it myself. Thanks for your help

Great.
The LFS shouldn't have a problem with that kind of thing, since they can do precisely what you did and get what amounts to a refund from the production company. Either they don't realize that or they just don't want to go through the hassle.
