Electric Yellow Lab Feeding

Hello everyone,

I would like it if someone could recommend what to feed the new yellow labs I purchased from a local independent freshwater fish store. You see, I don't want my yellow labs to develop bloat from feeding them the wrong food. The other fish I keep are convict cichlids and I feed them HikarI Cichlid Gold, which has 40% crude protein and occasional frozen food, such as bloodworms or brine shrimp. All of the cichlid flakes I have have 38-40% crude protein and don't seem to be the intended food for herbivore fish like these.

After purchasing these fish today, I only fed them New Life Spectrum Thera+ sinking pellets and they constantly would grab the pellet and spit it out, but did end up eating all of the food.

Thus, I am confused as to what to feed these beautiful fish...

Anyone who has experience, please advise me on what to feed these fish and what my weekly feeding schedule should look like.

I will be calling the store I bought them from tomorrow to get additional advice on what they feed these fish...

Thanks very much!

You really don’t have to be paying attention to crude protein, it’s arbitrary. Avoid bloodworms, this is the most common food to cause bloating in African Cichlids. Brine shrimp are totally fine, and actually, they’ll actually help with digestion. They spit the pellets out because they're too hard, but eventually they’ll eat them, as you saw. Omega One veggie flakes are awesome as well. In terms of frozen foods, I do San Francisco Bay Emerald Entree and Also Spirulina Brine Shrimp.

Thanks!

So, should I feed the yellow labs the New Life Spectrum TherA+ too? What about the regular Omega One Cichlid flakes? I just am confused on if I should exclusively feed them the Omega One veggie flakes and occasional frozen foods or alternate between Omega One veggie and New Life Spectrum...

I should clarify that I also feed Spectrum Pellets. I alternate between foods each day, with Spectrum Pellets having the most days.

Could you specify if it is the New Life Spectrum AlgaeMax or the regular New Life Spectrum?

Thanks.
