Hi all, the past month has been rough for my betta bear. His eye sight starting going pretty quickly and now I believe he cant see at all and has been sleeping 24-7. He used to come up for food but now ive gotten to the point where i cant get him to eat anything. Ive tried freeze dried blood worms, FT bloodworms, brine, and his regular hikari pellets. Ive tried handing feeding where i hold blood worms to him, ive tried soaking pellets and letting them drop, and ive also tried just feeding regular feeding and wiggling my finger at the top. Nothing. Were at day 5 of not eating and im not sure what else to do. Im worried that the time to put him to sleep is nearing. Does anyone have ANY more ideas to try to get him to eat? Hes only 3 and a 1/2 years old and i feel like its just too soon for him to go..

You could try soaking some food in garlic juice. It seems like when they stop eating they usually dont start again unfortunately. :(

So sorry! Three and a half years are pretty good for a betta these days, especially if you got him from a big box pet store.

I hope the garlic juice helps!

I got him to eat!! What i figure out is that hes only going to eat if hes rested on the plant thats at the surface because its easiest for him. I just need to figure out how to coaxed him up there everytime we do feedings. Do you think it would be too stressful to feed him outside the tank in a small container?

You could try it. Would not hurt. If he seems stressed and doesnt eat just dont do it again. :)
