Eheim Pro 4 350 Low Flow

To all who are having a problem getting your Eheim to prime and Pump . You will thank me later . I’ve had long time issue with low flow . I’ve replaced the primer seal ( compliments from Eheim ) . I did as they instructed to prime my unit . Still pumping very low flow . Low flow is caused by an air pocket in the canister. Priming it unit your blue in the face just doesn’t seem right . End result is no different. Still low flow . You can shake it , tip it on its side or upside down it just doesn’t work. I finally figured it out . Make sure cannister is empty of water , as well as both inlet and outlet tubing . Start out with your outlet ( supply to tank ) . Take the tubing with the spray bar and place in a bucket that is placed on the floor . While the valve block is not connected to the cannister , start by a quick siphon on the inlet side until water starts to flow. If you use your mouth , only one quick inhale will immediately get flow. Then slide lever to close valve . The supply line to tank has no water in it since that side was already drained . Now install valve block in unit until you hear the click and it’s firmly seated .
Now with the spray bar in the bucket , open the valve block . You will immediately hear water siphon into your cannister the air will be purging out the spray bar . When water starts to drain into the bucket you are now primed ! Close valve on valve block . At this time reinstall spray bar in your tank , open valve and plug in ! You will only have to press the primer two or three times just to make sure there are no trapped air . It will work . I hope this will help others who are experiencing this low flow issue . I have only bought Eheim filters . I still prefer Eheim over any other filter . In fact I bought a Marineland c-360. I was so frustrated trying to get my Eheim to Pump . I just had it . But before I took the Marineland out of the box , I felt that I give it my last shot . I don’t like defeat . Needless to say I returned the Marineland back to Petsmart.

Thanks for the head's up.

But we can all stop fighting priming units that don't work by simply blasting water through the inlet whenever we reinstall the filter ...

So many problems with priming units on various canisters - I don't even use them anymore - I just go to the pump and in 30 seconds the air is pretty much blasted out.

I have an Eheim Pro 3e and haven't had issues with priming as long as I turn the filter on with the canister full. Love Eheim filters! Thanks for the info!

Although blasting water into the inlet is another way to purge the cannister of air . I think creating a siphon effect and let physics do the work is really how these units are designed . It seems to me there are a handful of units that are just not that easy to prime . I’ve never had an issue ever , until this particular unit .

Eheim Pro 3 And 4 had some issues with water leaking from the motor head . The water leak developed at the primer seal . Eheim warrantied this and would send you a primer seal kit if your comfortable to replace it yourself . That would also cause unit not to prime and result in low flow .fyi
