At this time I will spare you the drama of what it took to get this undamaged to my door. I will tell you that LiveAquaria was very helpful and there customer service was A+. This will not be a detailed review. My initial impressions are quite good. I feel that the materials used are sturdy. Although the latch handles on the Pro series work to secure the pump head well...I wouldn't want to get too rough with them. If I had found this deal previously I would have bought this unit rather than the pro+series 2273 or 2275. Some things that really stood out: 1).The baskets fit very tightly in the canister body, very little chance for bypass. 2).The corner water flow tube is independent of the baskets in the 2078. 3).Unlike the 2273 & 2275 you don't have to worry about the stacking order of the baskets so that the flow tubes in the separate trays line up. This can be a real pain. If you want to see a professional have a melt down...
4).This is a fairly large, 10.5"x10.5"x21" tall. 5). 24vdc power cord. 6). As expected...it came empty except for a coarse and fine pad. I did not buy this for the bells and whistles but so far they are a benefit. I placed it in a 125g Freshwater lightly planted and low stocked Tanganyikan tank with an Eheim 2217 on one end, this 2078 on the other and a Tidal 110 in the center and I am impressed with the flow and of course it's silence. It's an Eheim.

Thanks for the quick review!

I am glad Live Aquaria made it right.

I had exchanged some emails w/ Eheim's customer service and they answered a couple of questions I had about the 2078/2080.

One of the questions I asked regarded what they recommended to use to lube the o-rings/gaskets/seals. Here is the response for that......

"The main internal seals are coated with food grade silicone lube from the factory during initial assembly and while this will help prevent the seals from deteriorating. A number of replacement parts including seals and gaskets can be ordered directly through our webpage Eheimsupport.com.

In regards to routine maintenance of gaskets and seals I always suggest cleaning and lubricating them with food grade silicone lubricant when performing service on your filter.

With proper care and maintenance these seals can last several years of service
."

Thanks for the input concerning seals. For years I used petroleum jelly until new info resulted in me changing to Magic Lube II by Aladdin. I am sure that there are other good products out there. Have you made a decision on the filter. They extended there sale tilll today. And yes I did get a $50. store credit.

Here is a food grade lube that works extremely well IMHO.
Just takes a little dab. That tube will last you a long time.
I have been using this stuff for about 5 years now. Still on my first tube!

In the comments for this product I read this: "Warning - this product contains petroleum which is not safe for O-Rings. You can find the Manufacturer Safety Data Sheet on the hanesmfg website which mentions the product is petroleum based.
By Ardon-blue on November 7, 2014". I am glad that it has been a good product for you. Check out the MSDS on Aladdin Magic Lube ll as a comparison.

Dow Corning Molykote 111 is a silicone sealant that's FDA/NSF approved for use in food preparation equipment on valves and o-rings made of virtually any material. You can get a lifetime supply for about $10 on Amazon.
