Eheim Pickup 60 Ok For Betta?

So I was talking about getting a 10 gallon for my betta Halfmoon boy - and I was trying to get ideas on the best filter for it
BUT after a long day of shopping I’m leaning towards a 17.7gallon with a stand - then I can have a led light hood on it too.
It’s a empty tank - and I only have hang on back filters but this tank has a strip of glass stuck to the top back to support the glass lid so hang on back filter can’t go on. so I need to buy a filter for it.

Petshop is telling me to get a eheim pickup 60 for the tank - I have no knowledge on filters so I have no idea if they selling me right item - will it be too strong for a Halfmoon betta?

I would recommend a sponge filter for a betta fish. They are relatively cheap. Get one of the more expensive brands, it will be better in the the long run.

It may, you may be better off looking into the 45 instead - slightly lower flow, but may be still too strong. Have you considered a sponge filter?

If it’s just the Betta, a 20 gallon filter will work just fine. You can put a DIY bafffle on it

Sponge filters are hard to get here and options are very limited...

I love my aquaone hang on back filters so the filter issue is putting me off upgrading

Maybe I’ll be better off sticking to my 5gallons

I have no idea on where you live, but I would suggest looking online and see if anything is available- be surprised if nothing is available.

I’m in NZ , it’s not that there is no sponge filters just they aren’t recommended here as the ones I found yesterday all said only suitable up to 20litres - the tank I was looking at is 65litres ( 17.7gallons)

The other thing that put me off was when I was searching threads yesterday for filter ideas / advice I found threads talking about when others have put their Bettas in bigger than 5 gallon tanks the betta didn’t do well - I only want to give him bigger to be better for him - thinking bigger the better - no tank mates- and I wasn’t going to keep my current 2x 5gallons.
But he is Halfmoon with a big tail so that - on top of the finding a filter issue when I love the filters I have , put me off
