Effects of TLC on a Betta and an age question!

I adopted Issac about a month ago since I got him I put him in a five gallon lightly planted- not for long- and feed him a varied diet of NLS Betta Food, Thera A Pellet, Bloodworms, Brine Shrimp and Daphnia instead of peas. I also give him Vita Chem and Garlic Guard.

He had a teeny blue tinge when I got him now it's more pronounced and he is redder.

His face is really white though so I heard that means he is older. Anyone want to take a stab at how old he is?

He is very active and has an amazing personality!

It's really awesome what proper care and a little TLC can do for a fish.

more white than my 2-yr. old, and congrats he looks very happy and pretty. My guess would be 3yrs, maybe 4, but I don't have much experience with old Bettas.
where did you adopt him from?

My bimbo neighbor- she was going to flush him because her 8 year old wouldn't take care of him and she knew I kept fish- never Bettas though at that time.

He was kept in a filthy tiny vase and fed goldfish food...

She said they had him for a year. But that is all I know about his age. Who knows how long whatever pet shop she got him from had him.

Bummer- he's an old fart. Maybe I should research geriatric fish care. LOL

He moves pretty quick for an old guy.

Hmmm...not sure why I put the google it smiley up! Sheesh I need more coffee.

I never heard of bettas getting a whiter face when older. I think it's just that the poor guy had a tough past (and maybe has some bacteria infection???). Give him some time and it will get it's colour back. I would say he is a bit less than 2 y.o.

My "young" male crowntail had that white face when I first got him (he was in a tiny filthy cup at a LFS) and after 1 month his face got almost full colour.

I don't think he's sick at all- at least he isn't acting like it. He has been this way since I got him but I will keep an eye on him maybe he will fill back in. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I've seen the white face thing on a couple of threads and read an article about it I found on Google.
But I don't think anyone knows for sure.

The white face isn't really an indicator as such. I had a betta that died from old age at the start of the year, he had a white chin. Then I bought a 5 month old from a breeder and he came with a white chin, but we knew he was just a baby!

It's just their colouring, the red won't come back, but it gives them character!

Oh he's got character. He doesn't seem to mind his white face.

you really don't need the garlic guard if you are feeding NLS.

Thank you. I was wondering about that since NLS has garlic in it.

He's very beautiful! I don't think he looks very old, maybe 1 or 2 years?

Woo hoo! We never know for sure but that's good news. I couldn't bear to lose one so soon after I got him- we all got really attached quick.

I'm no expert on betta ages by the way, he just doesn't look very old to me

I was thinking he didn't act old or anything but when I read around and saw that- I started thinking. That's never good.
