Eclipse Hexagon 5 system? Good or bad?

I think I want to get a betta, but I can't put him in my big tank, because he would attack all my guppies! So... I was looking at the Eclipse 5 Hexagon system, since it is similar to my big one, but not so hard to place in my small apt.

I read that some of you on here have them, and I wanted to know how you like them, and I have a few questions if they are good...

What filter do you put in, since the eclipse filters all have carbon?

Are there any modifications you need to do for a betta?

What kind of light do they like best?

I think I want to just rescue one from wal-mart or something once I get it cycled, unless someone has babies in the Phoenix Area! I know there is at least one member that breeds them here... but I forgot who!

I personally don't like them because the filtration system and everything is in the hood. if the filter were to break, you'd have to replace the entire hood (which costs about $75!!!!)

martinismommy breeds in arizona (phoenix I think?), and her babies are GORGEOUS!!!!! I have six of them

Greetings from Phoenix! I'm out in Chandler and I have a couple of Bettas ready to go right now...The 5 gallon hex is a great tank for a Betta..I have several of them.....They come with a light and filter..I take the cartridge out and use regular filter sponge in mine....

Let me know if you are interested in a Betta and we'll talk private..

I wouldn't be really fast to recommend the eclipse systems for betta's. My boyfriend has a 3 gal eclipse and the filter creates a lot of current that tends to push his betta around he he gets over to that side of the tank.
There are a lot of really good 5 gal kit's from Walmart that aren't too big. You just need to buy at heater for them (less then $15 for a cheap tetra one at Walmart as well).

EDIT: lol ninja'd and out voted

Several members have their bettas in 5 gallon hex's and are happy with them. I did at one time, but I found it a pain to clean and I wanted to give my betta more swim room.
I can't comment on the filter's strength. The one I had came with a broken filter....my husband modified the top tp accomodate an HOB.
You can use the carbon cartridges, just don't forget it has to be changed out. Other members who still have the original filters can advise you if they use something different.
I used the light that came with the tank.

Wow ninja'd by everyone..even double ninja'd LOL

hey...I just got this system about 2 months ago and I LOVE it. it's great if you just have one fish and don't have a lot of space. I would buy this tank over and over again. It's a great value for the money that you are paying. I have'nt had any problems with it at all. the filtering system is great. the only thing is you will have to buy a heater seperatly which I didnt know when I first bought it. but after I got the heater it works wonderful, my little guy (Jack) loves the room he has.

I only live 15 minutes from her, in rush hour. I will post pictures when I get it all beautified. It is a bit cloudy right now from the stuff being stirred up, and I need to get him something pretty to go in there. Then I will find a camera! Promise!

Lol. He seems to be doing good! He isn't quite as active as he was before, but I wouldn't either when I was just put in a new home, with no friends, and only rock... lol. I had too much homework last night so I had to BS some stuff and didnt make it to the store, so I am off to interior decorate for him in a little bit. The water is a bit cloudy, but other than that, he is good!! His color is nice and bright and everything.

Pictures of Beta Boy. Still figuring out how to use the camera and get decent shots... grrr. Plus one shot of my big tank.

I used plastic plants, that don't have any sharp edges. I just couldnt find any silk ones I liked! I will see how he does with these. First rip when he gets bigger and OUT they come!

for the plants, run a nylon stocking over them. if it tears, then they're no good, if not then your boy should be fine

He/she is much happier now! It is swimming all around and not trying to hide much anymore. It is even coming up to the glass when I get close. Now it just needs a name!!

He/she seems to be doing really good. It is really active and healthy. I am thinking about naming him Chewie or something, because he literally looks like he is chewing his food! His little mouth moves up and down when he is eating, and it is soooooooo cute! Makes me want to feed him more...

Oh. and yes I got the mail. Thanks!
