[QUOTE="Are you dosing ammonia and finding that it converts within 24 hours? I always recommend to start stocking with a clean up crew, meaning snails and/or hermits.
Yes, I have had the water for about 2 months now, I have been putting off adding livestock due to reading the forums here and wanted to be able to completely cycle and work on maintenance plans for when I do add to the tank. I have not measured in a 24 hour period though and will now give this some attention. I am very hesitant to add livestock, just for the fact that I want to make sure anyone starting out realizes the importance of getting the water cycled before adding live fish.

grantm91 has a great thread going and I had hoped that adding reefs and invertebrates to the tank first would help me before I add fish. I am still in need of getting lights for the tank, that would depend on what LPS or SPS I decide to get. I have read in this thread some very important things that I have missed, especially keeping the calcium and ph levels consistent.

I tend to search the forums before posting, just so that I have exhausted all the research available. This instance, I felt the thread was completely interesting and contain great resource material for more of my decisions to come later.[/QUOTE]

Thanks Rob I'm glad you like my stuff ! Nart has done a pretty deep and high quality guide thread which gives insight to everything even lighting. Can someone link it for us as I have trouble navigating and finding stuff on tapatalk.

Nart its so bad, I'm getting another Acan as I miss having an active feeding Coral, I didn’t think Id miss them that much but the zoas don’t fully cut the mustard, even though they are pretty much my favorite.

You must get acans, I have probably polluted my tank with reef roids jus tried see their response.

They are fun to time false too. Eeuphilia has very similar responses imo.

I agree, I love helping others and sharing tips or solving problems but when people need the big starter talk its just too much, the guides great, there so many ways to cook a dinner, Narts covered a few in the one thread, things don’t need to be done word for word as everything isn’t the same, but all the good nuggets are in there if you read that your helping your self out, even if your that much of a noob to aquatics you do your own research and refer back when there as you progress, I used stuff like that back in the day (last year ) off other forums and the web, its more modern too as things are ever changing, Id stickie it if it were my forum.

You are soooo lucky, I was considering sticking down gsp to one of my hermets but I thought it might be cruel. I saw some small ones in my tank, do you think they will grow to the same size they look sort of similar.

It could do, this has definitely grew in the year I had it, quite interactive to feed too, I used to have it on the sand but one day it stuck itself to a rock.

Mine has exploded with polyps need to frags it asap, is it literally just cutting it with a bone cutter or sharp dremmal?
I've gone from 1 head to over 10 in about 3 months.

I cannot really speak to this, because I've never done it and am totally scared to. From what I've seen in videos from the more professional places, you want the acan to close up as tight as can be, then carefully cut between polyps using one of those wet saws like this...
Gryphon XL AquaSaw Diamond Band Frag Saw
Surely there is a cheaper way, because people were fragging acans before specialized saltwater saws were available... but I've heard that this is the best way and will help to avoid losing polyps during the fragging process.

Ok, may try.... I'll probably bleach them . I could make some money on eBay or something while I'm at it. I'll frag my gsp tommorow, and post the result on my bild thread. Is it crule to put it on my turbo snail or one of my hermet crabs?

Mine was a diying colony In the back of an algae filled frag tank, I bought it before my tank was even fully cycled (about a week old (I was exited)) and it's done well. Didn't even know what it was, I once saw a £200 scoly and thought it was one of them

I've also heard using a dremel works really good as well, but the bandsaw works best.

I don't know bud... I suppose it might be if the coral can hurt the snail, but I really have no idea.
