Most sw fish I can think of are good jumpers, seen some super small nano fish today, but I was there for salt.
ebb42b2f468c61123b8a2117cf0c634f.jpg originally was meaning to go blue bucket Red sea’s standard salt but I chose this for its high trace levels without a stupid alk.

I have a little bday money left, I may get another (once my flu goes away), do you think because he didn't have a buddy he was bored?

9/10 when a fish jumps it seems to be a new fish, new water params, new surroundings and new tank mates can make a fish very nervous, its best to cover even stupidly small gaps as Ive had two jumpers, I save my Clown but the orange spot goby I had ended up like a pencil on the floor.

Where did you see them? Also what type???

I'm desperate for another goby.

Ah, he looked ok though, so if I get another one should I cover the top with cling film or something?

Xbox62 the ones I noticed were a lamp eye nano goby and a red striped goby, for gaps I cut pieces of one of these.
0220f9c910d40ac7d23b038d28e6cc4b.jpg I either stick or weigh it down. That's one of those tubs from a Chinese take away incase you can't tell.

I have lots at home, confusing as I haven't had Chinese takeaway for a few years .

I'll do that asap, I did a re-scape and bough some coral glue as I'm sick of my hermet crab knocking my rocks over every 2 muinets .

The guy at my LFS said I'm looking at about £50-£90 for a shrimp goby pair, do you remember how much those nano fish are and were they at ultrazoanthids? (Hopefully going in 3 weeks !!) Also found a really nice piece of live rock:

Any ideas of a coral I could grow on the skeleton to give a convincing alive look?

Ethan

P.s do you like the re-scape?

Edit:
Put the live rock in, looks great imo. Do you think the toadstool will be ok in the top?

I've gone overboard with the glue, on the Kenya tree and. I will do on the toadstool if it likes where it is.

It looks good, id put zoas on it, but I just put zoas on everything, literally everything . Do your research before glueing softies, Ive not kept Kenya trees or toadstools but I think there are some soft Corals you shouldn’t glue, I'm not sure which ones it is though.

I glued the Kenya's piece of rock, so the glue dosnt touch it. With the toadstool, there is already long dried glue on the base, I assume it will be ok. I just need to see if it likes the spot.

Is there anything that would keep it's detail, like a encrusting coral that would show the skeleton on the other side?

Oh that's fine then, I don’t think there is, maybe a sponge of some sort, Ive just noticed some encrusting pink stuff engulfing my zoas, I’m sure its a sponge.

Ok, I'll look around, I may just leave it and see what it looks like. There are still some spots on it that look 'alive' so I'll give it some TLC and see what happens.

Do you mind sending a pic of the mystery sponge, I'm curious to see what it is?, I may be able to do a Google reverse search or something.

Ok, I have this stuff but it looks more spikey. How fast does yours grow? I may try the one on my blasto If I can remove it.

Ok, I may try getting it off the rock, I need some neon greens in the tank, and nice bold colours .

I may also try gsp, would be a good fragging practice .

Also, anyone know what this guy is? He fell of the new piece of dead coral I got, and it attached to the rock.

Any ideas if it's a pest clam?

Not sure...You might be better off posting a help thread in the right forum, I think more people with see there also.....Have you considered creating your own thread for updates? I came on here expecting to see updates from Grant and all I see are yours lol.

Yeah its ok Ethan, it won't over run or do harm its just a cool little extra. I have one which I glued a bit of sps to lol, you should do your own thread as its like yours then.

Lchi87 no real updates apart from the salt switch, also the reactor, not mentioned yet but it seems to be growing more algae than cheato, and nitrates were high today, its been I think 5 weeks since the last wc, or whenever I got the mandI a week before that . Just ordered a new reel of lights £7, they are 6500K spectrum, further research shown people to be having more look with that kind of light on their reactors. The light come tomorrow.

Thanks for bringing me up to speed, I feel like going to Vegas put me behind in the real world and I can't backtrack on IG since my account got hacked. Looking forward to seeing the new light!

So I swapped the grow spectrum led reel out for 6500k as I was seeing algae growth on the acrylic and the cheato stopped growing.
51db90f213b87adc30006b76d6a5c44f.jpg after I stripped the Reactor down and threw out some Cheato I noticed it was sort of covered in green slime which made the no growth thing make sense. Now I'm associating this with the massive GHA and Bryopsis die off from the meds in my tank, leaving all the gha on the back wall during treatment to watch it melt was a bad idea, as this is now what I think the issue was with the cheato, maybe the dead stuff smothered it and gave the algae types that are immune to fluconazole an abundance of nutrients with no competition, also experiencing some dino issues, is it all related and stemmed from the meds and die off ? Before I made these changes I do believe that I had a good nutrient balance with that gha, it never ever spread and just sat on the back glass, as crazy as it sounds does that makes sense to others

Yeah I noticed some green slime and GHA in my reactor as well when I cleaned it out. Luckily it hasn’t hindered the chaeto growth yet...

Jayd976 I seen your harvest pic and it looks perfect, this time around mine was horrid, all falling apart with lots of dead cheato, it smelt like veg does when its in the bin. I don’t attribute it to the lights so much now, I think you will get algae after a time no matter what, kind of like biofilm on the glass, the new lights are because when I noticed the issue and looked deeper into it I seen most successful diy cheato reactors had the 6500k I think them guys at marine depot recommended a warm white which is different again. Its gotta have been that dead matter which caused my issue.

Jayd976
  • #1,543
I have to wonder if they recommend that warm white because that’s the only light they sell for it.

Ah that makes sense, they wouldn’t recommend something you can't get from them, I bet its not that important, I kinda jumped to the conclusion it was the lights without enough research. The white isn’t as blinding for me after a harvest so if it works Il be happy. I still have the strip for spares too or to try again if the whites turn out not being so good, because the pinks were ok for the first grow, I just ran into this issue and made the swap.

I have my Saltwater at 1.023 and there is not any trace of Nitrates when I do a NH3/NH4 check. The water seems to be completely cycled. Now I need to add living things to the water. Your post is great, what would be a great start from here to introduce live stock? I was thinking to add some skunk shrimp and some invertebrates.

@robbyerob I started with Clowns as I really wanted them bad, they are hardy and fun to enjoy whilst your tank matures a little, Nart I can't turn down designer zoas if its a good price lol Lchi87 you will have more designers than me soon I bet .

Welcome to Fishlore Robbye Rob ! I know you're talking to Grant, but I think I can help. So, you are sure that you're cycled, right? From your words 'seem to by completely cycled', I wonder how you're checking. Are you dosing ammonia and finding that it converts within 24 hours? I always recommend to start stocking with a clean up crew, meaning snails and/or hermits. See how they do for a couple of weeks before introducing fish or shrimp.

We'd love to see your tank, and I don't want to hijack Grant's thread too much, so it'd be great if you start a tank build thread. We'd all love to help you get started.

Thanks stella1979 coming in with the good help and advice for Rob, he should do a thread where everyone can help, @jamiecarmicheal Sorry I missed that, I use Tropic marin reef pro as the REd Sea Coral Pro KH is ridiculous since off loading all my coral and adding a coral based substrate, the tropic marin reef pro is right on point, should have used it from the start. That probiotic aqua forest stuff looks good too.

[QUOTE="Are you dosing ammonia and finding that it converts within 24 hours? I always recommend to start stocking with a clean up crew, meaning snails and/or hermits. [/QUOTE]
Yes, I have had the water for about 2 months now, I have been putting off adding livestock due to reading the forums here and wanted to be able to completely cycle and work on maintenance plans for when I do add to the tank. I have not measured in a 24 hour period though and will now give this some attention. I am very hesitant to add livestock, just for the fact that I want to make sure anyone starting out realizes the importance of getting the water cycled before adding live fish.

grantm91 has a great thread going and I had hoped that adding reefs and invertebrates to the tank first would help me before I add fish. I am still in need of getting lights for the tank, that would depend on what LPS or SPS I decide to get. I have read in this thread some very important things that I have missed, especially keeping the calcium and ph levels consistent.

I tend to search the forums before posting, just so that I have exhausted all the research available. This instance, I felt the thread was completely interesting and contain great resource material for more of my decisions to come later.
