Hi! I'm the owner of a male betta named Aqua, he lives alone in a 5 gallon tank. I've heard that you can train Bettas which I find really cute and interesting! So I was wondering easy Betta training tips? Thanks!

They respond well to food. Theyre like a tiny dog really. Super easy to train them simple tricks.

I’ve trained 2 different bettas to do tricks for me. The first thing you want to do is make sure that the betta isn’t afraid of you. Make sure that they know your face and voice (They respond to vibrations in the water.) Make sure to try to make training time is roughly consistent. A simple, easy trick to teach is to trace your finger along the glass. If the betta starts to follow, drop in 1 pebble or flake.
What tricks do you want to teach?

Thanks for the tips!
I've heard you can teach them to jump out of the water for food and put a non-toxic pipe cleaner in a circle and attach it to the edge of the tank and get them to swim through it, which I'm interested in!

Good to know!

Getting them to jump out of the water and swim through a hoop are two of the easier things you can get them to do. Use a pipette and feed them with that. A few days later, start putting it just at the surface and then moving it up away more. Within a few days you'll have your fish jumping out of the water.

Same with the hoop. Put it in the water, put the pipette on the other side with food. It won't take long before its going right through. As he gets the hang of it, move the hoop up. Your fish will jump up and out of the water, through the hoop.

Food is a great motivator.

My wild is semI trained to follow a pen/pencil tip or finger around the glass. I'm in the process of training him to flare at the mirror, then taking it away and having him flare at the pen/pencil or my finger, of course with some tasty motivation when he does good.
