Easy Basket Customize For Seachem Tidal Filters

I just came across this so I thought I would share. **** #2 is not my idea but someone else's I found.

**** #1.
Seachem Tidal filters can actually be pimped even more. One thing that I did for my Tidal 55 on my 10 gallon, (intake tube cut down to fit), was to just get a small piece of mesh and cut it so it slides into the outside groves to block floating plants and some food. Totally removable.

**** #2.
Next is to drill more holes in the bottom of the removable media basket. Folks say that this will totally remove the overflow or at least restrict it so it is very small. Here is a picture.

I may even to this to both my Tidal 75 and 55.

I think folks should do this.

Edit: Added Picture #1.

The craft mesh on the skimmer is genius. Such a simple solution.

FYI... yes I did drill both my Tidal 55 and 75 and it works perfect.

Has the extra holes removed the overflow completely or at least quite a bit? It's the main complaint I have of my Tidal 75. Now that I'm contemplating a 110, I'm thinking of finally drilling those holes, on both my 75 and my maybe-soon-to-get 110.

Still all depends how much media you jam into the basket. Those are 1/4" holes but I'm sure 3/8" hole will work better. Just don't run the filter at full tilt. That's why Seachem put such a great flow control on for. Remember too much fast flow through your media will take it 5-6-7 times for your water to hit the media. I'd rather have the water hit the media once through the filter. Both of mine are turned just about all the way down and the water is perfect with the baskets jammed packed with foam, floss and Matrix. If the media starts to clog then you can turn up the flow.

i've had my two Tidal 110's for a few weeks now, no overflow. my media is the factory blue sponge, then some polyfil, (1 has a large bag of Purigen), then a large bag of Pond Matrix.

As promised I am correcting my own information when I come across the post.

The above is not an accurate statement anymore. You want fast flow through your media for fast ammonia oxidation. Which means you need to have porous media in your filter so the water does not go around the media but through it. Both Tidals are now filled with foam.
