East Coast Monster Fish Konvention

I couldn't find any threads on this so figure I'd do my part to get people excited. Anyone going? I know it's not till September. I've never been to anything like this before. Everything I read about is on the West Coast or way too far away for me. What I would do for a "monster" tank! If you have one, what do you have in it, or what would you want? I would love a Fahaka puffer...don't think I could handle the Mbu. Can't go wrong with an Arowana either.

It's a 3 day event from September 20-22nd in Parsippany, NJ. If you go to the website Eastcoastmonsterfish.com they give you the itinerary of speakers and events. Does not seem overly priced ($50)...maybe so if you have to travel far. Found out about it in my TFH magazine. Also if it entices you, they are offereing free beer.

Thanks! Papajin had our TFH Magazine, and I haven't had an opportunity to sit down and look at it since he dropped it off on my desk (although I supposed I could of logged in to the site and read it there lol).

Just asked Papajin if we could go. He said "we'll see". As a parent I know what "we'll see" means rofl.

I just found out they will also be giving away tanks each day, after each speaker, and each auction!!! (Sponsored by Aqueon) Plus there will be a ton of people going selling fish out of their own rooms. My question is, how do you safely, and with minimal stress, travel with your fish?...especially if you fly. Ship them to yourself?

*BUMP*

Since I hear there aren't many things like this on the East Coast I want to keep reminding people.

Ooh, Parsippany is only like 5 minutes from where I work! And free beer! I need to consider this.

I actually read an article in a back issue of TFH magazine where the collector did just that. He would collect the fish in the wild, then just ship them to himself. Of course, he did have someone on the receiving end, as his trips lasted a while.

Don't forget that House of Fins in Greenwich will have their annual SPLASH event somewhere around the first week of October. I haven't seen anything posted about it yet. You have to go! You'll actually be able to buy fish that fit into your tanks!

What I would give to be able to do/see some of the things you guys in the states do. Australia is way too isolated. Post some pics and let us know how it goes please!

I wish I could! NJ is just a tad too far from Michigan, and I've told my mom I'll house sit. Her Doodle doesn't take kindly to long car rides... post pictures! I hope you win a tank!

This was fun. It's still going on but I couldn't stay. I didn't win any tanks but good speakers and met some nice people. These things are nuts. There are fish and tanks everywhere! Check out my thread on "Fish ID Help", got me a good one. There should be a FishLore club offline.
