Dwarf puffer - how many and which gender?

Okay quick question on a problem that I have.About two days ago I bought some driftwood from my LFS for my puff tank. I was looking for a cave sort of thing the puffs could hide and the wood made a natural cave! I rinsed it a little before putting it in. Now the water is brown and I don't now what to do. Can u do water changes while cycling? Will it affect fish? Thanks for the help.

 

did you use the TSS? Do you have fish already?

The brown is tannis leaking into your tank. You can use carbon in the filter to get it out faster, but it will not hurt your fish. It will eventually go away.

If you used the TSS you are not supposed to do water changes for like 10 days or so. If I remember correctly

 

Okay that is good to know that it isn't harmful. I put TSS in last night and I think I will get the puffer when it is cycled and if the tannis isn't gone after a few weeks I will water change. Just testing ammonia now so I will post the results(I only have ammonia test I hope to get nitrate test soon

 

Tested at 0.75 ammonia or so. That is what it has stayed at this last week. Hopefully it started going down!

you'll see a nitrite spike next and that is just as poisonous to fish as ammonia, so don't add fish when ammonia goes to 0...but luckily ur only a week or so out once the ammonia drops and the nitrate spikes..

Hey guys. I am having a problem. My ammonia has not changed a bit, the water still is brown from tannis, and I don't know what to do.I am almost thinking about putting a hardy fish in there to finish the cycle. AND the driftwood is growing some weird white stuff! What do I do.
