Dwarf/pea puffer with dwarf crayfish?

How would this work? I read on fishlore that the pea puffers work with ottos and possibly some kinds of shrimp. The biggest issue being that the possible tank mates of the pea puffer have to be bigger than the puffers mouth and fast enough to avoid being nipped at by the tiny little puffer. (or have no fins like the dwarf crayfish lol) I have also read that pea puffers can live in a 5 gallon. How about a 10 gallon with two dwarf crayfish? They are too big to be eaten and I can't imagine they would have any trouble avoiding the puffer because they are quick little buggers!! And the dwarf puffers get no bigger than an inch! Would the crayfish be able to hurt the puffer? would the puffer be able to hurt them? I am thinking the puffer will be smaller than the crayfish!! (pea puffers being less than an inch and the dwarf crays being an inch and a half) The tank would have dozens and dozens of hiding spots....where do the pea/dwarf puffers spend most of their time? Top? Middle? bottom? That is a big decision maker too... My twin spot puffer lives alone and spends a lot of time resting on the bottom which I could see being a problem with the dwarf crays...so do the dwarf puffers rest on the bottom like that as well? I am hoping they spend more time up high so that won't be an issue!

Ok I am rambling. What do you folks think? Could this work? A dwarf/pea puffer (or two) and two dwarf crays in a 10 gallon?

Nope, don't think so. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't work out, MJDutI and MollyPalooza can help though.

I am sure they can help! They were a great help on my twin spot puffer questions!

In most cases I'd say no. I'd actually be more worried about the cray hurting the puffer at night. That's when it'll be active and the puffer will be "asleep". Or you could have an aggressive puffer and the cray won't last a day. Do you have either yet?

I just have the crays right now. So I will just leave it be. I just really want some little pea puffers... I have 10 tanks... Lol but none are empty and I figured the only option would be with the dwarf crays. All my other tanks have fish that are too big. But I think I knew what the answer would be.... :-( oh well.

Agree with @MJDutI on this one. Either the crays could injure the DPs (puffers move slowly much of the time, investigating and examining things) or the DPs will relentlessly harass the crays and may succeed in picking at them -- they're tenacious and can hunt down ghost shrimp in some cases.

No, dwarf puffers don't tend to spend any time resting on the substrate. They're hunters, whereas your Turgidus is a lurker. DPs are active in all levels of the tank. They will often curl up and sleep at night on a plant leaf (real or artificial, makes no difference) or a piece of decor, which is really quite adorable. When they're awake, however, they're busy little guys, almost always on the move.
