Dwarf Honey Gourami Aggressive Male

20G Tank, Matured, Planted. Neutral PH, KH, GH, very low nitrate

I have 2 female and 1 male Dwarf Honey Gouramis in this tank.
There were peaceful when I got them (about 2 months ago).
Male tried to breed with one of the female, but I didn't see any bubble nest or anything but they were breeding.

Few days later this male got very territorial attacking and chasing both females away
I've never witness this kind of behavior

Can anyone tell me help me explain what's going on? Should I remove this male?

The males can get very aggressive, especially if their are two in the tank. Are the Gouramis fully mature?

And if you can, put a tank divider for a spell

Is it chuna or lalius? If it’s a lalius the behaviour would make sense considering the males are extremely protective of the nest before and after mating. If it’s chuna then that is a bit odd...

few questions-
1. Long or high 20g
2. Exact parameters(nitrate, nitrite, ammonia)
3. Do you use a liquid test kit
4. Temp
5. How often and how much do you do waterchanges
6. Other tank mates

These are all very good feedback.
My question is how can they breed without a bubble nest? where's the egg maybe under a leaf? I can't tell

Both females are hiding on the corner, maybe I need to divide them...
There is no other tank mates, 1 nerite snail and 3 DHG that's it

It's 20 gallon long and I use test strip:
Nitrate: 15 ~20
Nitrite: 0
Ammonia: 0
GH: 100
KH: 50
PH: 7.0

Perhaps there’s a bubble nest under a leaf? Is is a chuna or lalius though? There can be a few different courses of actions dependent on what the species is.

(Also, I suggest at some point getting a liquid test kit as the strips are inaccurate)

I have uploaded youtube video of this behavior.
And these are Chuna right?

Due to higher current in my community tank, my male Honey can't make a bubble nest, so anytime a female gets near him, he chases her off. Perhaps your boy is just frustrated because, for whatever reason, he's having a hard time building a bubble nest. Maybe he doesn't want to have females near him until he's ready to mate.

Very little to no current, I placed bubble wrap to help him out.
Well my theory is that because he is young and first time parent he just doesn't know what to do.

It might be that he needs more time to make a proper bubble nest.
Or he is acting like he already have one and guarding them.

I have a no clue...

How old is he? I looked into it a bit and sometimes when honey males are becoming sexually mature(should have a black/blueish patch on stomach) they can get aggressive.

I just noticed that I might possibly have 2 males and 1 female instead, which is a problem.
Thought I had 2 females and 1 male...
I can't really tell this guy is male or female

I see but do females color up their their chin like that (blue/blackish)?
I know that males do in breeding mode.

Thought this is a beginner fish, something simple but so much to learn and they're very complicated...

I'll be honest, I've never kept any myself so I'm not certain on that particular question. Perhaps DoubleDutch will have some input on it?

lol, yes, that's how everything in this hobby is! "oh, this should be easy right?" then fish keeping just throws a wrench into your plans!
