Dwarf Gourami with Betta?

I have a 10 gallon tank with 1 male guppy, 1 female platy and 2 ghost shrimp. Originally, I was going to move my platy into my 55 gallon (when I get it set up) with other female platies. Then I was going to get 4 or 5 more male guppies and a dwarf gourami. But I had to move my friends Betta into my 10 gallon with the guppy and platy and they are all getting along fine. I will move the platy once I get my 55 set up and I was wondering if a Dwarf gourami and the betta will get along. The betta is pretty peaceful and doesn't bother any of the other fish in the tank.

Highly unlikely- both bettas and gouramis are labyrinth fish, and both will kill another male of the same type if there is not enough territory.. and 10 gal. will not be enough. Even if both fish get along as juvies(and that's a huge "if"), they will almost certainly try to kill eachother as adults.

Personally I would advise against putting Gourami and Bettas together. I think the Betta would be the biggest problem. In my opinion the Betta would stress the DG to death. DG can be real easy to stress out and in that small of a tank there would be absolutely not enough room for them to stay separated.

Also putting fancy tailed guppies into a tank with a Betta isn’t a very good idea because both can be real fin nippers. It might work in some cases but I wouldn’t risk it. I am kind of narrow minded when it comes to Betta, in my opinion they don’t fit with most other fish for one reason or another.

Okay. bowcrazy, I know, I was worried about the guppy and betta too because the guppies have flashy tails but he has been in there for a few days now and is fine. (Surprisingly!) Ha

a few days doesn't mean much- it can take a while for them to settle in. If they're fine for more than 6 mo. when they are sexually mature, then you have a peaceful betta on your hands. Until then, watch that tank like a hawk- these fish don't necessarily give much warning time before deciding to kill another fish.

I am like the Betta – I am not going to warn someone before I punch them in the nose, could get me punched first. LOL

lol.....

I would say a 10 gallon is too small for the gourami. I had a dwarf gourami in my 10 gallon temporarily and he had an attitude problem, when I moved him to the 75 he was more relaxed. Just not enough room in a 10.
