Dwarf Gourami - What type of food?

Picked up a DG (flame colored) a couple weeks ago and can't seem to figure out what he likes to eat. Everything I've given him thus far he has spit out. He'll suck the food in and spit it out multiple times then swims away. I've tried sinking carnivore pellets and wafers, algae wafers, flake food, baby brine shrimp, and bloodworms and he won't eat any of it. I've noticed him following my mystery snails around lately and pecking at one of them. Maybe he likes snail meat?

First step is to try to replicate whatever the store or individual was feeding.

I feed AngelsPlus brand Flakes and I notice my fish tend to be more hesitant towards others when I switch it up. I have some micro pellets I drop in occasionally do that most of the inhabitants aren’t to interested in.

As you already know, lots of trial and error. It could partly be just a result of the fish settling in too and not being to sure on what’s going on around him/her.

I was going to call the pet store tonight, but they're already closed. I'll call them in the morning.

If Petsmart or Petco have live food, sure, but I don't think they do.

Can o cyclops $6 on amazon, almost as good as live food. Its a sealed can with a slurry of dead cyclops.

Hi, I think this is fairly normal eating behaviour. Sucking larger bits in then spiting some out. I'm not sure how much you feed him but he doesn't need all that much.
You'll want an insect based flake food as a staple.

I switched to a different flake and he is eating them without spitting them out. I called the store and they said they feed Omega One freshwater flakes.

Try Pellets (small) Fluval bug bites, Betta bites, ETC.
