so I have a 29 gallon tank and I already have a powder blue dwarf gourami, I'd like to add a blue and orange one. I have seen that they can't be together but how come they are housed together before they are sold? Is it not possible to keep 2 in a 29 gallon tank

Solo. 29 is too small for keep 2 male gourami. Unless it’s heavy heavy heavy heavy vegetated. You got what I mean.

They don't get really aggressive with one another until they reach sexual maturity. The ones you see at the fish store are always pretty young.

Thank you. I was really trying to get a blue stripped gourami but my impatience won over and I settled for a powdered blue. He's beautiful but of course after MONTHS of looking I finally found some and I'm kicking myself. Hence the questions.

These are called neon blue dwarf gourami. Powdered blue is also nice.

I know this because I actually bought two neon blue for my 29 gal. End up returning one because they just keep fighting. And I have a lot of plants to cover. So I would not risk it.
