Dwarf Gourami not eating!! Help!

I recently got a male flame dwarf gourami for my 10G tank along with 4 glowlight tetras (adding 2 or 3 more soon) but when I feed, the tetras will gobble up all the flakes and the gourami will dart to the back of the tank when I approach. Is this normal?

My water parameters are;

pH: 7.4
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite:0ppm
Nitrate:0-5ppm (in between)
Temp: 76-78 degrees
Food: Color enhancing tropical flakes
Filter: Aqueon quietflow 10
Heater: 50W
Lights: LED white lights (8-10 hours a day)
The tank has artaficial plants.

How recently did you get him?
Sometimes it can take a few days for them to get used to you and come up to eat.

DGs can take a while to feel good. You might try adding a couple of sinking shrimp pellets when you feed so the tetras eat the surface/midwater flakes and the DG eats off the bottom. I know my DGs eat flakes with my Platies, then quickly get to the bottom to feast on the pellets with my Corys. Sometimes the DGs just focus on the pellets. Soon after that, the Platies do the same and my substrate is alive w swarming fish.

Maybe you can try putting in the food and leaving because sometimes fish feels stressed in your presence. Maybe you Cana Lao either soak their food in garlic water before feeding or turning off the lights when fishing. It might help.

It could be because he is new, but in my personal experience, my pair of grouramis are just as ravenous as my other fish, and compete with my angelfish (mini piranha’s) and almost try to jump out of the water for food, they are certainly not shy

I would give it a few more days.

If a fish doesn't eat after a week: Investigate.
If a fish doesn't eat after 2 weeks: Be concerned.

But up to a week is not unusual.

You might try reduced lighting and remain in the room being still. You do want to see what’s going on. And yes, I agree with MacZ…..its a bit early to be too concerned. Ideally, you do want the fish to accept your presence and eat promptly with you there. Then…..
