Dwarf Gourami fry?

Today I counted 4 baby fishes. I have three male platies and a pair of dwarf gouramies so it's obvious that these fishes are also dwarf gouramies.

But I thought dearf gouramies laid a bubble nest under a fliating plant? I don't have floating plants and I never saw a bubble nest.

Anyway my tank is well stocked and I don't want anymore fish in there so I was hoping that my platies or the parents would eat the fry in a sort of humane/natural way.

So my auestions are:

Can dwarf gouramies reproduce without floating plants and bubble nests?

What can I do in the future to get my gouramies to not mate again?

Will my platies or the dwarf gouramies themselves eat the young?

thanks

I doubt it's the gouramis, as the female DG is rarely seen in stores. Are you sure all of the platies are male? Can you add a pic? What do the fry look like?

It's definly a female DG because she has a gray color. My platies are all male I'm 100% sure.

I can't provide pictures right now but the baby fish have a grayish color with a black dot some are more developped than others but they all look like that.

Sounds like it is dwarf gourami fry...... you need to feedx them live food to survive though, so I wouldn't worry about them if you don't want them.

Is there anything I can do to prevent my DG to mate in the future?

Do you maybe know if the parents eat their young? And if platies eat the fry?

I got my little guy a girlfriend as he kept building a bubble nest. At 1st they didn't get along and she even destroyed the nest but after a few tries it looks like they got it right. Daddy is being vary good and putting food up in the nest for the babies along with picking up and spitting the babies back in they nest if they fall out.

Something about the picture of the mom makes her looks wrong but it's just the pic it's the only one I have atm so..

Fry are only a day or 2 at this point. I'm hoping a few make it in to adulthood.

Very cool! Is there anything else in the tank that can eat them, or are they in a tank by themselves?

Congrats on the fry. I think it's cool how the dad rounds up the babies when they wander.
My sparkling gouramis fascinated me when they did that.

So I needed up leaving daddy a light to long and he most of ate the fry. He again started making a nest and had more fry. This time I moved him sooner but he doesn't seem all to happy in his new 15g(previously a 5g). He kept going back and forth at the glass like hes trying to brake out of the tank. What is the same as the 5 gallon for all the readings. The temp is up from 72(because I know that's a little low but he seemed happy with it) to 77 and that's really the only big different. I made the same straw beds for him to make his nest in and the same yarn plants hanging down the tank. Have the same split in the tank for him and the female to be split up. He just seems so unhappy atm. Only been 16 hours or so but stil.. They are eating tho.

The fry are still in the 5 gallon and so small its hard to see how many of them there are and how there doing. There still just laying on a plant in the same area they were put. I just don't see much movement so will see in a few more days if there up and about.

Here's a picture of 2 of the little guys. I'm not sure how many there are left but these 4 I fond and moved in to a cup in the parents tank. The cup has a slow drip from the filter in to it and small holes in the bottom for the water to stay leveled. I'm going to see Which ones seem to do best and may move more over.
There still very small and hard to see so this is the best pic I can just but in person if you look really hard you can see a long white tail on the bubble body, very much like a tadpole. They also have a little black belly.
There in the top right and bottom left corners.

So out of the last set I can only find about 6 fry. There still just as small and hard to see as they have been. They don't seem to be growing to fast.

Daddy is also starting to act normal again. He seems to be trying to pull stuff over to this straws to make a nest but there's no bubbles in the nest at all yet.

Part of the reason they're growing slowly may be due to the lower temperature, fry seem to grow more quickly in slightly warmer water. Can you adjust your heater at all?

I can up the temp.
I've read 75-80 and 77-82 so I just guessed at 77-80 to be the right place to keep them and I when with upping the temp to 77 the room some times makes it get the warmer temp.

When he started wanting to breed in the 5 gallon it was only 72 degrees in the tank but now the 15 gallon I moved them into is 77-80 degrees depending on the room temp. I haven't seen in under 77 its 78 atm and I've seen it as high as 81 a few times. i'm guessing it's going to stay around the 77-78 now tho as the temp outside and when down so or house is stay at 60 degrees.

The starting out in colder water may have done something but I think they just are a slow growing fish. I'm not really sure as this is my 1st time with them and I haven't looked up how fast the fry should grow just how to care for them but well see what happens. This set is from around the 14th when I moved them out of the 5 gallon (they had them in the 5 gallon) but isn't the 1st ones they had that didn't make it that I started the thread with.

So there about a week old I'm guessing they shouldn't really have grown much in that time, again not fully sure but if there at a temp I read is good for them and swimming around I'll not rush them and just watch how they do.
