Dwarf Gourami Continually Gulping Air Please Help!

My Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami used to be very active and liked to dig in the gravel for food and swim all over the tank and now all he does is stay at the surface and gulp air. The water parameters are ph. 7.0, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and 5 nitrate. I use the apI freshwater master aquarium test kit. The tank is 30 gallons and he gets along fine with the other inhabitants. I have a heater and filter and the inhabitants are a pleco 2 female guppies and five flame tetras and a blue glotetra. The water temperature is 78 Fahrenheit. I heave had the tank for about a year and a half. I change the water every two weeks and I change about a quarter with the vacuum. I use ph.7.0 and an old brand of dechlorinator and they both work fine. I feed my fish twice a day with tetra freeze dried blood worms, fish flakes which I am not sure what the brand is, wardley shrimp pellets for the pleco and the other scavenging fish and last of all new life spectrum floating pellets which not all my fish care for.

He looks exactly the same and doesn't swim weird but he keeps getting worse. I don't know what to do so looked all over the internet and everyone said it was normal for a dwarf gourami to suck air of the surface. But this is different. He does it all the time now and never swims anywhere. He also never wants to eat. I have had him for a year or so and he wasn't injured when I got him or anywhere in between. I noticed symptoms two days ago and I haven't started any treatment. Go ahead and tell me if you need any pictures or videos I would be happy to load some for you.

It could honestly be dwarf gourami disease. These fish are way mass produced with poor breeding methods and are prone to disease and deaths with seemingly no cause

One of my guppies died a long time ago with seemingly no cause.

How old was it? Just add about three months to how long you had it

Probably something wrong internally or a complication at birth. Livebearers have lots of babies but not all of them will make it, 4 months is still pretty young so it probably just wasn't going to make it.
Back to the gourami, I had a similar situation with one that unfortunately didn't make it. Turn the lights off and leave them off for 2-3 days. It might buy him a month at most, but there really isn't a cure

That's to bad but thanks for solving my problem.

My dad said that not every fish will make it and that it is a normal part of fish keeping. (he had fish several years ago)

Unfortunately the farmers that used to be the main supplier and bred them well and in good conditions have stopped with them. That's because these wholesale breeders are able to pump them out faster and sell them for cheaper, it's terrible and shows how greedy some people can be, but that's how life works sometimes.
If you manage to find a place that still does things the right way you could get one that will last you several years, not a few months

Most of the fish I have are from petsmart including that dwarf gourami and the guppy that died. The only fish that is from somewhere else is my glofish and surprisingly he/she is the healthiest fish I have. It is the fish I have had since I started fish keeping more than 2 years ago. Do you have any suggestions for stores that would sell good fish?

Check online. Cost a bit more with shipping but usually better quality.
