Dwarf Gourami Breeding? 29 Gallon Tank

  1. Papa K Initiate Member

I have a 29 gallon tank. It has been setup and running for about three months. I have an assortment of plants in the tank for two months. The plants are doing very well, staying green and growing. I do a18 - 20 % water change once a week. I use solely RO water. Since I started using RO water I have found the only chemical I need to use is Stress Zyme. I want to keep mated Dwarf Gourami's. How do you identify the sex of younger fish? Will Dwarf Gourami mate with any specie or must it be within the same specie. Because of the lack of experience breeding the fish may be strictly accidental, but I would like to do as much as I can to give the fish every chance possible.

    Thank you

Are you using pure Ro water with no re mineralisation?

You can usually get a positive gender ID when they're 3 months old.

    Hi Coradee,
    YES. . . . Pure RO

Pure Ro with no remineralisation is not good for fish, Ro removes trace elements that fish need to be healthy so you need to put them back with a remineralising product or use a percentage of tap water

I understand what you are saying. Do you have any recommendations as to what
    chemical(s) I should add?
