Dwarf Cichlids

I am cycling my tank and looking into what fish I might want when its done. I have a planted 20 gallon long. I think I am going to do 10ish Tetras. What dwarf cichlid species should I look out for at my LFS? Will they mess with my Tetras or plants? Are dwarfs better in solo or pairs?
