Dust Particles In Water

Why isn't my filter filtering out these dust-looking particles? This a day after a water change.

Does your tank have a lid on it? It reminds me about my tank which had some floating particles when I left my tank open for an extended amount of time...almost like the dust which usually floats around a room, found their way into the tank. At first I tried a water polishing method with a DIY polisher, but after a few weeks, that still didn't solve the problem.

I basically gave up, though, because I didn't want to keep running the air pump for the DIY polisher if it wasn't really working. And then one day, noticed that I don't have those floating particles anymore. I'm not sure what has changed except that the plants in the tank have gotten larger. Maybe they have begun helping with the filtering or cleaning up of the water. It could also be that whatever caused it, be it dust in the room, stuff in the substrate, etc eventually got cleaner.
