IMG_1812.jpg HI Everyone,
I purchased my little Mushu, a dumbo half-moon, about a week and a half ago. When I got him, I noticed that his fins were a just a little torn, but as these pics show, his tail is now very torn. He swims well, though not as well as my other half-moon that has normal pectoral fins. He only has live plants in his tank, though he does like to hide out in the little house. I re-homed the baby platy that was in there with him. I did a 50% WC yesterday. He lives in a heated 6 gallon section of a 20 gallon tank.
I'm worried he has fin rot. What do you think?

Looks like he did have something at some point. I'm not seeing the black gooky ends so it may be on the mend .

It looks more like fin biting to me. Many heavy finned bettas will fin bite to relieve some weight off of them. Can we get a picture of his section of the tank? You should continue to keep his water super clean to prevent any infections.

Ok that's good. Some of the info on the internet suggested that white edging could be indicative of fin rot - but I'd hoped that was his normal coloration.

White or clear tips usually indicate new growth.

I know this is off topic but, WHERE ON EARTH DID YOU FIND THAT PURPLE SNAIL?!
I know that some members on this board have colored snails (but I can't remember who). I purchased this little guy from www.lifewithpetsgci.com. Unfortunately, I just checked and they are out of stock. They seem to get them back in stock fairly regularly though.
Good luck!
