Think of putting duck weed in my 55 gallon. A little worried that once it's there, no turning back. Will it take over or can I get rid of it if decide I don't want it?

I would avoid it all costs. It's very hard to get rid of it, and it get's everywhere.

Personally, I love duckweed, but only in tanks with little to no flow at the top. It's a pain if there is a lot of flow in your tank.

Duckweed is a pest plant, imo. I prefer frogbit.

It's fine if you're using it to soak up nutrients and then feeding it to a goldfish or something...

Also, you can totally scoop it out when you're sick of it. It might take a couple tries and some diligence but it's possible.
