Drying cholla wood out for a few days

Does taking cholla wood gain something if you take it out of the water for a few days and then you put it back in? If noticed a few times that the partially re-dried pieces always get swarmed when I put them back in the tank. Every shrimp, fish and snail seem to come running. Just curious - Thanks!
Just adding that this would be with other wet and sunken pieces left in the tank at the same time.

My guess is they’re just curious about what’s new in the tank and want to check it out. I don’t think drying it out does anything to the wood itself.
