Driftwood Staining Water - Is It Bad?
Natalya
#1
I bought a piece of Malaysian driftwood for my farlowellas. I boiled it 5! times, and still noticed today it was staining water in my tank yellow. Is it dangerous? How do I deal with it?

Hello!
No, it is not dangerous. They are called tannins and are actually quite beneficial for fish; most people don't like them for the cosmetic reason The only way to get them out is tons of soaking; they'll eventually leech completely out, but it will take some time.
Hope this helps and best of luck!

Seachem's Purigen will take the tannins out, I have it in all my tanks with driftwood.

No, it's not dangerous at all. In fact, some people do it on purpose! Google blackwater tanks. They can be gorgeous!
