Driftwood Identification- Is this safe?

I forgot to take a picture of exactly what I found but I haven't brought it home yet. Resembles the image but some still have very loose, fibrous bark. It very curly. I plan to peel the bark and bake the wood before soaking it, but want to know it's safe before I use the effort. Thanks for any replies.

It might be okay, but if the bark is still attached I'd be concerned that the wood isn't sufficiently dried out and dead enough to put in a tank.

If it still has bark it may need to be seasoned a bit longer. Do you know the types of trees in the area you found them? That would b a good way to narrow down what type of wood it is. That’s just my thoughts on it. I’m sure someone will come up with other ideas. Nice looking pieces good luck!

Agree with the bark thing. The wood by itself should be safe as long as you didn't get it from an area populated with pine or evergreen. Pretty much any wood that leeches sap is not safe for an aquarium. Walnut and other woods from the Juglandaceae family should also be avoided.

I'm defiently no wood expert, so I couldn't tell you what kind you have, but ideally branches should be weathered for at least a year before using it in an aquarium.

I believe it's good and dry. I found it in an abandoned wood lot right off the river. The bark is partially attached but can be pulled off with just a pinch.

Then you're probably right.

Thank you. I know it was really vague without the actual image, but I was hoping if it was really bad, the description would be enough. I appreciate the reply.
