"Driftwood" from Petco

My local Petco sells some nicely shaped "driftwood" that they simply call "Aquatic Wood". They have a whole tank full of them and it's a dark brown color. The water they are in is crystal clear so I don't think they are leaching any tannins.

Does anyone have experience with wood from Petco? Thanks

I bought some of this so-called driftwood...it's not bad. I had to wash off all the existing algae as best I could, but other than that it hasn't given me any problems. My ghost shrimp loved it! They started eating everything on it.

I'd boiled it first to make sure it's not harboring any nasties.
Otherwise, I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

This might sound like a noob question, but how do you boil driftwood?

Do you put the wood in a bucket and then pour hot boiling water over it
Do you put the driftwood in a pot over your stovetop and let it boil with the wood?

    Either or.
It depends on the size of the wood and your pot. lol
