Downgrading due to leaks question about changing filter set up

Currently i have an Aqueon Quiet flow 30, and a 50 on my 37 gallon tank(both inactive) due to the above i had to dial down to my 29 galon which isnt that bad really means my light will hit the ground which is nice. my question is should i keep using both filters in a 29 or just use one of them? im still not even sure how much flow these intakes produce

I would use both! More filtration the better, you can never filter too much really. When I had a 29g I had 2 filters and my tank was always crystal clear.

I would also go with both as mentioned above not only for the added filtration but piece of mind if one has an issue u still have the other one running. Also added filtration is always good as long as it doesn’t blow your fish around. And if it does there r always ways to baffle the filter intake and return to reduce flow.

yeah mine too. i was just curious because i was looking online and reading stuff on it and one saying that adding two different pumps like my 30 and 50 that both will basically output at 30. so i guess in that story i would have to ditch one and replace it with the same? also putting a 50 on a 29 tank. what would that do vs the 30?

That too, if it is really strong I cut a plastic bottle, cleaned it up, sanded the edges and cupped the out flow of my filter and it significantly helped the flow pushing my guppies around the tank. I've also heard you can use a suction soap dish and put it right underneath it and it helps break up the current too.

luckly quiet flow Hobs are a waterfall kind of thing when they spew water. i guess the only thing i really have to worry about is the intake. which i put pre sponges on. not only to not waste food but when i first started out years ago fish would get stuck the the intake. but that could also because i was starting out and making my fish sick ><

I've always followed the rule of getting a filter that can turn over the tank water 4 times over. So the aqueon 30 says it does 200g per hour and the 50 does 250g per hour. I don't really understand how having both of them would equal the output of just the 30 if it's 2 separate filters. But maybe I'm not reading what you said right. lol

Also yes, I had an issue with shrimp getting sucked up the bottom of my filter so I had to put in some sponges to block up the bigger areas where they could possibly get sucked in.

generally what i was reading is saying , for example both filters would only work as hard as the weaker one. forcing the stronger filter to not work to its potential. naturally i dont fully understand the science behind this.

I see, well I still would use both and see what happens. I don't think it would hurt anything anyways.
Maybe someone else here knows exactly what they mean.

oh ive been doing it for 2 years. its been fine. mostly im curious about using a 50 on a 29 galon tank. and now that i think of it i dont even really know what the differences are anymore since i had no issues. i just googled about using larger filters and there are posts on here about people using a 50 aquaclear etc on their 20g tank and they were fine . so i guess im worrying over nothing
