Hey guys. I'm new to the hobby and I'm setting up my First aquarium. My main question at the moment is: If I put water conditioner (prime), do I stil need to test for chlorine?

I've never tested for chlorine, just add water conditioner every time I change or add water.

No, you don't need to test for chlorine although I'm not even sure how you would do that lol

With a test kit like this one.

I've never tested for chlorine, just add water conditioner every time I change or add water.

Thanks, I'm not buying the chlorine test, then.

Yeah, I didn't even know that was a thing. As long as you add prime you're good

Most of the chlorine test are for pools since you need to maintain a chlorine level in them.

The test strips by Tetra that are commonly used test for chlorine. However, if you’re using conditioner, its not necessary.

SeaChem Prime is the staple of the aquarium hobby. Almost everyone who keeps fish uses it.

I've never tested for chlorine. I just use slightly more than the recommended dose to be safe during water changes.

I have tested how fast prime works on highly concentrated chlorine (city water) and it went from me being able to smell chlorine to no chlorine at all (and I stuck my nose almost in the water to make sure because I wasn't about to put water I was unsure about in with baby apistos).

Tho Shalt Not Taketh the Name of the holy primes in vain! Optimus no Seachem! In all seriousness, when I first started the hobby most dechlorinators were just that, they Decholirnated and that was all. Now, everything does something different. Little tip, They have dechlorinators with stress coat in them so you never have to buy JUST stress coat.

I use API Stresscoat + which has always worked great for me. Never even crossed my mind to test chlorine really. Most people use Prime though.
