Dojo loach fry! (Pretty sure lol) Ramen and Udon

We’ll see more in a few weeks, but it’s not an Endler or a goldfish….

Hopefully will keep updating this until they’re large enough for the 30 (then back to the pond some day), but for now they’re in a planted betta cup lol Once they get a bit larger, I have a 5 or a 10 they can safely chill in.

Until the next update, meet Ramen and Udon. Hatched within the last 24 hours. Discovered while harvesting mosquito larvae. I had moved some moss from the pond into smaller tubs because of goldfish eggs. But I see there was more :)

Not a Dojo. Looks like a Goldfish fry to me.

Goldfish fry on lower right ;)

Believe me, I’m trying to not accept they’re dojo loaches but I’m kinda outta options lol

Edit: It will be hilarious when it turns out they’re northern pike or something that hitched in lol

He's just a few days, maybe a week, older, that's all. However, it could be some other minnow that had eggs hitch in on the plant.

The goldfish fry still had yolk sac remnants, so 2-3 days. It’s 4-5 times larger than the one with no yolk sac so it can’t be goldfish.

Movement is entirely different as well. The goldfish moves it’s tail and caudal as a unit and is much more anxious in its movements.

The other fish barely wiggle their tails for movement. Very smooth, very intentioned. They sit hovering in a spot, then zip off. The goldfish wanders about like a toddler unsure of its footing.

Your fish are not baby loaches. They are some kind of Cyprinid, whether Goldfish or Minnow uncertain at this time. But they are NOT loaches.

As I keep showing you, not goldfish at all. I literally showed a comparison pic of the two.

Also, no minnows in the “lake” I collect from. It’s an old man made farm pond. Stocked with bluegill that stay small and a couple small bass. Adding a lower level feeder to the pond is needed just to feed what’s there.

But that will be a bit of a challenge for another season. If it’s not Dojo, the only other random thing would be bluegill. It’s a maybe, but my collection area is the opposite side of the lake ftom a known breeding area (only sandy part)

Additionally, pretty sure all sunfish like that are nesters. Not like Corydoras where they’ll leave a few eggs here and there. The male builds an area and defends it. I can’t imagine just a few eggs being outside that area abd the opposite side of the lake.

Going off the photos in the provided link, gotta say your fry don't resemble loaches. No barbels, body type is wrong, fins placed very differently. Cute lil fellas! Excited to see what they'll grow into.

I’m just starting to think bass. I saw them in the lake for the first time this year. The collection area is near a deeper part of water with American lotus. I wonder if these are little bass?
