Dog/puppy food allergies

I have a friend that has a golden-doodle puppy that has very bad food allergies-- the vet has him on the Prescription diet-- and the food is costing her a fortune-- has anyone heard of any brand of dog food that has low molecular protiens, such as kangaroo or duck being the first ingridient????? I know it sounds so wierd-- but this is what the vet is telling her would be the best food for him-- and she can't find it anywhere-- I just thought maybe someone would know or at least have some more info on dog/puppy food allergies-- thanks-- snickers would appreciate it!!

I am sorry about the poor dog Unfortunately, I know nothing about dog foods ... the last time I had a dog was when I was a kid, and it wasn't really me who was feeding the dog. I don't know if this suggestion will help anything, but maybe try calling various dog food companies and ask them if they make foods that the dog requires. Find a list of dog food brands (for example on Pet Smart or on Petco) and call those companies.

I thought Purina was a drinking water company.

My daughter's poodle has severe food allergies also. She feeds Bridgette homemade dog food. Chicken and rice. It is not nearly as expensive as the commercial kinds.

Yes, Chicken and rice is very good, you put chicken fillet and the rice in a pot and boil it - no salt! when the rice is done the chicken is done. Our puppies got parva (cat flu) and they were so sick we lost two but two survived on that recipe. Chicken and rice has very little in it that upsets their tummys. If I may ask exactly what happens when he eats regular dog food. Try hills science diet dog food or Purina is a good brand. I'm sure you get Eukanuba there too but all these specialty dog foods are ridiculously priced. Otherwise I don't know if he would be able to eat mutton and rice. One of our Weimarana's had terrible food allergies and that was all he could eat.

she tried the whole chicken and rice thing-- he seems to be allergic to anything that has chicken or beef as 1st protien listed-- the vet said anything with kangaroo or duck listed first would prob be best for his belly-- however she can't find anything for a decent price. When he eats the dry food he gets awful diarhea-- she is looking into a supplement like omega fatty acids?? will have to search parva/cat flu-- have never heard of that but have heard of parvo in dogs-- thanks!! he is doing great and is such a smart dog though-- and has put on weight!! Here's a website that might at least be able to help your friend find another brand for her puppy. The Nutro brand is what I feed mine. I feed them the Ultra type and they seem to really love it. It has the Omega 3's you were asking about, and I think there's a flavor that contains lamb instead of chicken or beef.
